Default k20a3 head questions? did a search and found nothing!

ok guys, I have a k20a3 and was wondering if you can upgrade the valvetrain on the a3 head to that of the a2 or another true dohc vtec k-series head, I was told that the castings are the same and you just need to replace the rockers and cam on the exhaust side, all the oil passages are the same! I'm trying to find out if this true or not? If so I would like to upgrade this motor to the type s cams, and throw in some better springs, etc. I would greatly appreciate any info, thanks alot!

or you could just buy aftermarket cams for the a3, they would be around the same price as the oem ones

yes you can put the type s rockers into the a3 head. just to a search, i believe jeremy @ inline pro did the write up.you have to switch the pins in the rockers around because the a3 head doesn't have the lost motion assembly. and im not sure where you got the info from, but i doubt that the a3 flows as much as the a2 head. you'd also need a kpro to do that swap. so before you do anything, you should add it up and see if its worth the money. hope that helps

it'll cost a pretty penny and the A3 head does not flow as well as the A2 head. When it comes down to it, you'd be better off just buying an A2 and going from there.

Yeah Im with him. All you are essentially doing is putting a types cam into the a3 head which is not worth the work when an aftermarket a3 cam is readily available.
