Default k series transmissions and their problems.

hey guys, i tried searching but haven't come up with anything conclusive....i was just wondering how the k series transmissions are holding up in modified/non modified swapped or non swapped k series motors. I have a friend who just bought an rsx type s and is already having trans problems where his 3rd gear pops out while driving. I know there is a problem with the transmissions, i was just curious to know 1. is this problem common on the jdm type r k series transmissions, and 2. is there a rebuild or fix for it....id like to know some experiences if possible. Thanks in advance, i apologize for my ignorance.

the 3rd gear issue is with alot of 6spd trannys..everyone is having problems but everytime they bring it to the dealership, the dealership can't verify the problem so there isnt a solution for this yet...some dealership suggest that you drain the tranny and fill it with a new version of MTF and that should somewhat help wit the issue

so basically we are S.O.L as far as that goes???? i mean sure some new MTF might alleviate the problem but its not solving it...... is there a design flaw or what?? Could this be the mighty k series' Achillies heal?? I am very disappointed....as that really dissuades me from wanting to do a k swap on my dc2....

hmmm so that means its not an entirely widespread thing and only on particular cars.....meaning there are cars that don't see a problem at all.......thats very odd....ive also heard about the MTF reformulation by honda......ive never really heard of this happening on the imported japanese motors though...namely the Type r....i wonder if the transmission is different from the type s.....besides the lsd and different gearing....kinda wondering if my buddy should just order a type r tranny and be done with it...thanks for the link and your help too

Another honda tech, having this problem myself with my 07 si. Changing the tranny fluid will only prelong the life of the syncros. the dealer decided to replace the third gear and syncro and so far its holding up. This problem occuring in 4th gear as will as 3rd gear so if you bring your car to the dealer, keep that in mind so you don't have more problems down the road.

it's not really gonna make a difference. you can try using a gearspeed carbon synchro set.

It's kinda pathetic cause the 6 speeds are close ratio. The closer ratio the gears, less it should grind.

you think a b series transmission adapter plate or something will be fabbed up for the k series like how there is for the H series???....im really disappointed that this is such a problem....it feels similar to the whole crank walk issue the DSMs are having....its like cancer man and those K's have got it..... doesn't seem to be a remedy in sight.

B/H/D/F are all counter clockwise engines (CCW)

Kseries/F20C/F22C is Clockwise (CW) Rendering this impossible.

It's not so much a flaw as just wear and tear. Every manual car uses forks to get the stick into gear. Over time the forks can wear or bend or get more resistive with mileage. Hence why changing the fluid can help some what with it getting into gear. However if the fork is bent you'll still run into pop outs at some point. Not much of a fix other than new shifter and shifter components
