Honda civic Ex 99 Question
I have a stock 99 ex, i want to TRY to make it go 160+. but i dont know what parts/brands to get for it. I already got a AEM intake and a Exshaust(not sure what kind came when i bought it) its still a d16y8 motor. Please help wit some advise.
you want to go 160+ mph? wow this place is getting worse and worse. if your talking hp then that wont be too hard to accomplish. and forced induction is turbo/supercharger.
Ok so you want 160 hp at the wheels ? Are you going to do any of the work yourself ? With a d series motor it would be difficult to get 160 hp without FI or spending a lot of money. Whats your budget ?

Have a B18C5 from an ITR swapped in. Done. Factory reliability, and you reached your HP goal with no need to look after it excessively. It seems like you're new to modding. A factory engine that is swapped in will probably be a LOT better than a heavily modded D series to make the same power. With your level of experience, the turbo D series will cost a considerable sum. Plus, you'll have to take it somewhere for all the resulting leaks, maintainence, break downs, etc.
With the B18C5 swap will initially cost more...but you just have to do oil changes every 4k to 7500miles. Timing belt/water pump at 100k and spark plugs at 30-60k. If you do the Timing belt and water pump when you swap the engine in...you'll probably never have to worry about it again....unless you actually put 100k on the swap.
Factory reliability is nice. Plus, the BEST mod for a D series is a B series.

If your new to this then I would start out with a LS swap. They're cheap and pretty common. Out of the box it'll be faster than the D and with a little bit of work could be a decent engine. Just a thought though, its your car so do what YOU want.

Well...that's not really a good answer. He doesn't KNOW what he's doing. So saying "its your car, do what you want" is invalid. He wants information. His question was how to make 160hp out of a D series...or out of a 99EX depending on how you read the question. If he doesn't know what he's doing...then he can't really know what he wants. Plus, you dont have to cover your tracks and cop out by saying "its your car do what you want". If he asked for an opinion or you have a solution, state your solution. Everyone seems to be afraid of stating anything on here now a days lol.
Now I think we have to determine if he meant 160whp or 160hp. OP ....which one? WHP means the horsepower at the wheels. hp is at the crank. crank hp is much easier to make since there's no drivetrain loss. A USDM B16A makes 160hp. It's cheap as hell. But 160whp is different.
