y1 s1 j1 ys1 tranny differences
Could anyone give me a link to a thread that explains the difference between the transmissions. i have a b16a and next year im going to be taking hour long trips to school and back twice a week. i got my motor on hmotors and i got the short geard trans which is the Y1. I wanted to get one of the longer 5th geard trans so my Rpms arent so high and i can get better gas mielage. Is there oging to be much of a difference in the rpms if so how much? Which of the three transmissins have the longest gear ratios and what is a Ys1 and how is it different from the rest? Any infor. will be appreciated.

that's also the highest geared trans you have listed, the j1 ys1 and y1 are b16 trans. You can google and find specific specs.
well the transmissions that i listed are compatible with the b16a without any modification right? or there other trans that can just bolt strait up to the b16a1 without changeing anything?

Your best bet is to go with a 92-93 integra YS1. The down side is you must run a 92-01 clutch but the up side is it has the same internals as most hydro trannys. Right out of the box you have the really tall geared YS1 base tranny and also the GSR YS1 which has better gears similar to a B16 but a taller 5th gear...It's much easier to find parts for the YS1 as opposed to the 90-91 model.

LOL the Integra never came in an SI....maybe an XSi in Japan. USA only got the LS,RS,GS, GSR between 90-93

Keep in mind that YS-1 and the earlier model transmissions like the J-1, Y-1, S-1 are not interchangeable.
So don't take the gears from a YS-1 and think they will fit in a Y-1....won't work.
As somebody mentioned...It is best to find a USDM GSR YS-1(rare) or a JDM spec Integras XSi YS-1(also rare) and be done with it. You can then take 92-01 Hydro LS 5th gears and use those.
The 5th gears from the USDM 90-91 LS are no longer available. They have been discontinued. So I would invest in a YS-1 if I were you. You will be a lot more happier when it comes time to buy parts.
Good luck finding an parts for a J-1, Y-1...there are no US counterparts to those transmissions and its hard to get them from Japan considering they are over 10 years old and most of the parts are now obsolete

I also have a friend that has 2 extra YS1 B17A GSR trannies. I'm not pricing them but if anyone is interested I can help you locate one
