My review of driving without a powersteering belt
AWESOME
the steering felt way too loose before
after I took off the power steering, the car felt a lot more like a "race car"
ive had it off for a week now and i havent gotten into any problems yet nor do i forsee any...parallel parking is a little more difficult...but all you gotta remember to do is to keep your car move while you are trying to steer into the spot
i cant feel the power increase but other ppls dyno shows 3-4 hp increase so i consider the extra power a bonus

man i hate having the belt only off. i have the lines looped now and i am going to let the system breath better by tapping into the high pressure line that feeds the rack and T that to a Tilton brake reservoir so the steering can become much easier. just the belt off
for city driving. for track use only that is a different story.

i must be a wuss but i HATE it without it. i cant stand to drive straight lines. in fact, it feels like im going slower. ...but im sure with the dropspeed write up done, it would feel nice again.
cool everyone has different opinions...looping the lines may be a good idea too though...i might look in to that although im mechanically challenged

Anyone autocrossed without P/S? I'd be interested in that sort of review...I'd think it would hurt more there since you're spinning the wheel like crazy all the time.
On a type R with a unorthodox PS pulley, we removed the PS belt and we saw a 5whp increase across the whole band!!! However I think these results vary with the car and mods. The car we tested it on was heavily modified and built (NA).
I gotta chime in and say that I personally don't like the effort without powersteering..the increase in strength for my tiny wimp *** arms makes for unnecessary effort at any speed.
I appreciate the "feel" but to me it's just more concentration required to control a car that should be point and shoot.
I still haven't had the chance to drive a car with the lines looped and T'd to a reservoir....that might change my mind....!?

I too like my power steering. I refuse to remove it after driving around in the ford aspire for a month and a half (it did not have power steering so I assume the looped lines would have the same feel as the aspire would)
My car is used for daily transportation and autox, so power steering
