Default Noobie here, few questions

Hey what's up Honda Tech! Just joined these forums to get any information I needed about what I'm dealing with. Now before I get flamed I already searched and didn't find any exact solutions to my problems so maybe I can get some help.

Problem #1: My clutch pedal/clutch has some problems. I can sometimes go into gears and it drives fine, but it sometimes will sink all the way too the floor while still in gear while driving as if it lost pressure or something, and I have to dig my foot under the pedal and pick it back up, pretty scary. Fluid seems ok and I did bleed the system so I dont know what else it could be. Also it feels as if there is too much play in the pedal, when in gear i can push the pedal about 2 inches in each direction. The clutch pedal feels like it doesn't even raise up back to where it should be. Any input on that one is appreciated.

Problem #2: I just noticed this one this morning since I just bought the car 2 days ago and haven't really driven it hard. When I press the pedal all the way to the floor, the car seems as if it can't go past 4500-5000 rpm's, but if I was to lift off the floor about an inch or so it pick up a lot faster, like everything is normal. I checked the throttle lines and all that and couldn't see what could be causing it.

Well thanks for anyone that puts in some good help and information. Still kind of new to the car and all of that. BTW the car model and engine is in the siggy.....

Thanks

#1: take your tranny off and make sure your clutch is aligned properly.

well your main problem, is that you bought someone elses problem. you shouldn't buy a car that has difficulty changing gears or runs funny without any knowledge of the car before hand. ESPECIALLY transmission issues as many times a transmission problems involve the trans coming out, which isn't a hour long job to say the least.

but to answer your questions, Check your master and slave clutch cylinders (there is a how-to somewhere I'm sure) thats what happened to my car when the slave blew out *Although mine went out and stayed dead, didn't 'come back'*

For question number #2, you need to post a TON of details.
1: What Year/Make/Model
2: What engine
3: What ECU
4: Pics of all 3 incase you don't know what the differences are.

No he never had problems with it before I bought it. And when I test drove it the clutch was fine and the engine picked up like it should, I just figured it's my bad *** luck. It is my project car so doing a lot of work to it was expected, I'm going to have a friend look at my master and slave cylinders, and if I need to I'll buy a whole new clutch kit.....its a 1993 civic cx hatchback with I think a b18 motor from a 95 or 96 ls integra, no vtec. I could get some pics up or a video going or something. I'll post when I get some more info.

Yeah, the guy I bought my 97 EX from "didn't have any problems with it" either until I drove it for ~75mi and the trans crapped out on me.

no offense, but either the seller is full of ****, or you were shifting walker style your first day of owning it... (I'm a bit confused, just a min ago you said the clutch problem is intermittent *Sometimes*, what makes you think he didn't just hope it wouldn't happen while you were test driving the car?)

I own a 92 CX with a 96 B18B1 (LS) in it, is your trans an LS as well?

inspecting/removing the master/slave cylinders is a VERY easy job, Pickup a Haynes manual and do it yourself, you JUST said this is 'my project car' and yet you are gonna have a friend look at it before you do?

I don't mean to be an ***, I'm just trying to educate you.

Try to bleed your clutch system again. If it keeps happening, then it's possible that you may have a leak at your Slave Cylinder.

Ditto, Mine completely went and had the same problems. (Except it wasn't 'sometimes' once it happened, it was done, Lol)

Anywhere I can get this manual? I'm not sure on the trans actually, and your probably right about him hoping it wouldn't happen to me while I was driving it. Either way it's going to get fixed I was just seeing if I could get some replys on here. My friend is only going to let me know what's going on, he's been a honda tech for a while now and knows alot. I'm just used to my SRT-4, over 50k miles and not 1 problem....Thanks for the help to everyone.

Its our pleasure!

I personaly own the CHILTONS manual for 88-95 civics and 9X-97 Delsols, its been a GREAT resource, and has given me all the information I've needed in most repair cases.

they are typically $15-18 at Autozone/Murrays/Advanced Auto/etc.

When it happened to me I had only owned the car for like a month when it went (2 owner car... My dad, then me) I got stuck at a BK parking lot and was near my GF's house at the time so I called her dad *Truck-Driver* and told him what happened.

He showed up like 15 min later, and drove the car clutchlessly 15 min back to his house without stalling it once (Or coming to a complete stop for a single stopsign obviously

he's since taught me HOW to drive like that incase it happens again, and it is surprisingly easy once you get the hang of it (I can clutchlessly shift smoothly 2-3-4-5 and back down again, I just can't get 1-2 still)
