Default Weird question i know- Mercades Ignition set-up in a CRX

Is it possible to make a custom housing so i could use the Cadez ignition set-up they have for those smart keys... Where the car wont start with out it? This way there's no way the car gets taken? I know get a quick release wheel but with going to LA alot they bring them with them... i know... Thanks. I would be getting the ignition from either a junk yard or from the dealership its self.

Honda has this immobilized key on new cars too. Almost anything is possible with enough time and money.
but how much does the setup for this cost? and do you need the ecu like hondas systems? why not put that cash towards a great alarm.

I am going to have an alarm but if you've ever lived in LA, alarms doesn't mean nothing... There so easy to by pass.

Waste of time & money. When have "smart" key ignition systems ever stopped a thief.

Try stealing any the new Cedez you can't... Thats the point. There's a chip in the key is when allows the rely to the ignition to allow it to turn over.

I would read through the info on this how-to in the security forum:

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread/1794938

Lots of great info.

You can set-up a relay so that the starter doesn't have power whenever the alarm is armed. Couple this with some hood-pins to make it harder to get to the relay for bypassing, a stealth-installed alarm (nice one -- DEI made like viper or some others, read the thread, is recommended and I would opt for one that alerts your key-chain or w/e) maybe a hidden rocker-switch somewhere in the cab to cut power to your fuel pump. Etc. Seems to me that you would be better off spreading your budget out over several security options rather than relying on a single one. I'm sure a magnetic switch or something creative could be just as convenient as the system you are considering.

If poorly installed, yes. Think outside of the box when installing an alarm. For example, most alarms have a programmable output or two. Use one of them to drive a typical high/low beam switching relay (Found in many cars, alot of VW's). They work like a regular relay, but switch to another position and stay there when temporary power is supplied (Like from the prog. output for example), and dont return when power is removed like a typical relay. That way, you can switch the power of the ECU on a relay with the programmable output. And you could make the other unused output of the relay (The one that is hot when the ECU is dead) drive a blinking LED (That would only blink when the ignition was on, and the car was in your "No start" mode, as a reminder that you are in that mode. Good luck steeling that car with out knowing that a system like that is hooked up. It would have to be flat bedded out.

I dont think so. I have seen aftermarket remote starts installed in these, they start with no key. its a pain but can be done. Im sure a real theif can figure it out pretty easily.

Remote Start and what I'm talking about are soooo different. The keys have a chip in them not a remote start or anything else like that what you where or are thinking.

I am a cert. mb tech...the way the mercedes ignition system works would be basically impossible to duplicate in a honda. the key has a 'rolling' code that changes every keystart with some crazy amount of encryption. there is also a rolling code in the main computer of the car called EIS. everything in the entire car goes through EIS, its kind of like a central gateway....if the two codes dont match (key vs EIS) the car wont start. people are stealing these cars by using computers that can capture the signal of the key and predict the next rolling code. in order to wire this system into a crx you would have to somehow simulate all the modules that EIS looks for, because if the EIS is programmed to read certain modules and they arent there, its going to [freak] up. the parts alone for an EIS and a mb key are probably more expensive than a base model crx to begin with lol - i know a key is about 300$ and EIS on a newer car is in the thousand(s). i like the hall effect switch hidden under the dash that u can splice in to any dizzy, fuel, ign wire and use a magnet to open and close

Hall effect? And plus thats why i figured i'd have to get the whole housing from a wreckd cedez thats why.

pull the dash, splice in the hall effect switch, then put the dash back in. now put the magnet over the spot where the hall effect switch is -

take the magnet with u when u park, the switch will open

put the magnet back and the car will start..

without using the mercedes scan tool SDS (about 15k a year to lease), it will be very
hard to 'code' eis correctly to work....im not saying it cant be done but its hard enough to get a mercedes with an EIS problem to start, nevermind a honda....
