Amp power lines near spark wires a nono?
Will having amp power lines right next to the spark wires cause the wires to not operate correctly?
I have two 4awg power lines going from the battery to teh trunk, and as of now they are almost touching the spark wires.
Sorry if this is a dumb question

Sparking wires? I said spark wires.. the spark plug wires of the engine.

'Cus if it doesn't affect the spark wires then I wouldn't need to take it apart again and redo it. All my lines are lengthed to fit according to my configuration.
Hence the question, and this thread.

It's going to introduce noise on your power wire, which will in turn be amplified by your amp.
Nothing should be in contact with or in close proximity to your spark plug wires, not even other spark plug wires. The insanely high voltage present in spark plug wires is what makes it possible for the electricity to jump the gap at the end of your spark plug, even under the heavy dynamic compression in the combustion chamber. Any minor little flaw in a spark plug wire and the electricity is going to find an easier way out before it gets to the spark plug.
In other words, you're just asking for trouble. And I could never imagine an installation where it would make any kind of sense to run the power wire near the spark plugs or over the top of the hot engine.
It would be funny though to hear that someone had electricity jump out of the spark plug wire directly into an amp power wire. I can't even imagine what would happen. Probably a deafening noise and a fried amp.

However, as mentioned, your spark plug leads can induce "ign. noise" into your audio system.
Now that Hatch has brought it up, I want to know what would happen if the total output of a spark plug lead is allowed to discharge next to/onto an amps power lead, at the very least I would think it would be very loud ign. noise.
I am going to have to set that up at the shop next week.

Thanks for the answer; I was thinking it would cause an issue but was just curious.
The problem was I had a limited length of power wire lol so it was coming close to the spark wires.
I'll get around to rerouting it.

jmai86, can you post up a pic of your install? I have a feeling that your power wire is draped over your engine.

Lol nah it's not. I'm not that ghetto
It was just almost touching the cap and plugs on the side cus I had it going along the intake.
But it's coo now I rerouted it around the side. Stripping 4 gauge wire is a PITA!

If you didn't blow the fuse you would probably blow the next thing in line the power supply transistors which are usually only rated at approx 100v. If you do it use a cheap amp. You would probably also blow a hole in any of the supply capacitors.
