i vote b20b. it'll be a cheap swap to just do, and im sure you'll be happy with the tq, and then one day when you feel like it, you can build an awesome b20 VTEC setup. b16's are fairly cheap too, but no tq, and little power just isnt worth it in my mind.
I will rather go for the LS swap. Its cheaper than the two you mentioned and I think is just as good. An LS/Vtec would also be better than a B20/Vtec.

Read the FAQ and decide for yourself.
In my opinion, i vote neither.
Boosted LS motor.

well honestly, they're both slow... BUTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT.....
if ur lookin for power than i'd suggest you buy both motors, put the complete b16 head on the b20 block, use the b16 tranny, an get it tuned.... Sell your remaining parts to recoupe some of that bread u spent, than use that money to start your turbo build... Than u'd have a lil bitta *****...

LS-Vtec can move out pretty good, but since he is looking at sub $700 engines I dunno if thats the bread he is gonna wanna spend.
but to answer his earlier question about a B20 with a B16 Trans:
"Bad Idea" I know I will get arguments about this, but the B16 transmission was designed for a HIGH REVING powerplant, which the B20 is not, so you will be only kissing the B20 powerband briefly with a B16 transmission instead of shifting INTO the powerband like you want/need to.

How much experience do you have doing this kind of work? Its not exactly hard to swap any B series engine into and EG/EK but if you do the B20 and eventually choose to do the B20 VTEC monster, could you do it yourself? Or do you just want to drop the B16 in and crack VTEC all day without the extra work? Choice is yours...
yeah the b16 is meant for high revving but with a stock b20 i doubt anyones gonna go over 7k anyways... and thats why i mentioned he should sell the parts he doesn't need to pay for the parts he does need... "sleeves, pistons, rods, ect.."
i didnt see his budget so i was just layin out my $.02

hell no! the b20b is a better engine than the b16 anyday. a lot of people are misled by the b20 being rated at 126 hp but notice, (that is on a crv with an automatic transmission)... before adding my b16 head to my jdm b20 on my 2000 si, i would easily take b16 civics by about three carlengths......no bullshit i think the b20b is even a better engine than gsr. now my b20 vtec takes out type r anyday and it cost me a little under half the price.
i forgot to mention i freaking love the torque b20 puts out if i launch any higher than 1500 ill just staying spinning, but launching at 1300 ive yet to come across someone getting the jump on me

no, completely stock b20b block with completely stock 00 b16 head.
i was taking out rsx type s when non vtec by over a carlength, but enough bragging about my Si, lol
...I got it on video getting smoked by my b20b nonvtec CRX.

I'm aware of all the swaps and there outputs and such but I never really experienced them first hand. Your saying you beat a RSX Type-S (k20) with a b20b Non-VTEC in a CRX? wow.
you got the video?
