I'm having problems getting my car to start. It's turning over when I try to start and I have power to everything electrical. I'm not sure what the problem could be and I've asked my friends. I've been told to try changing all kinds of things. So have i've changed out my spark plugs and fuel filter. Any suggestions on what the problem could be?

 

try testing your battery, then your charging system, do you hear your fuel pump turn on? could be many things

 

If you can hear the low humming sound of the fuel pump, then next check whether there is spark at all the plugs.

 

I can hear the fuel pump humming and I changed out the plugs to. When I pulled the plugs out, 3 of them smelled like fuel. It's wierd cause I've only tried to start the car about 5 times. Twice without out changing anything, twice after changing the fuel filter, and once to verify the fuel pump was working. Never pumped the gas pedal while trying to start. I'm gonna try to shoot the wires to see if could be faulty wiring. Is there any other parts I should possibly look at or try changing out? Also what would cause fuel to get into the plugs? Thanks for the help.

 

the fuel on the plugs is there because the injector is spraying into the cylinder. so that says its getting fuel. as for the one that didnt, that one injector could be plugged. check to see if your getting spark first

 

To check for spark, remove the plug wire from the plug and then insert a good plug into the end of the plug wire. Ground the threaded part of this plug on a convenient metallic part of the engine, and then have a buddy crank the engine. You should see a bright spark at the tip of the plug. Repeat for all four plugs. If none of the plugs have spark, then you should test whether (1) the rotor has come loose in the distributor, (2) the coil or igniter in the distributor is bad, and (3) the timing belt has snapped.
