Work Wheels - Emotion CR Series Explained
Hey guys,
I had asked the forum a question a few days back regarding the cancellation of a particular size of the popular Emotion CR-Kai series wheel. The next few days I spent researching and actually decided to contact Work Wheels USA / AKH Trading INC to gain more information regarding this rim. A very nice man by the name of Jim **** from Work Wheels was happy to answer all my questions, and gave me a little history lesson on the Emotion series. I figured I'd share my findings with you guys so that people can have access to this information in the future
The original Emotion series wheels by Work are sourced back to early 2000 and have seen 3 different generations since their inception. There were three different manufacturing processes used over the product line, and a slew of available custom order finishes. Below is a small breakdown of the 3 different generations of Emotion, including Emotion, Emotion CR, and Emotion CR-Kai, as well as some identifying features for each:
First Gen
- Pressed Forged or medium/low-pressure Cast
- Generally glossy color paint
- Custom colors available at additional cost (eg: Matte gunmetal / bronze / white)
- No rim lip flange as you see on CR-Kai
- Not much spoke definition
- Forged versions only available in 15", 17", 18" sizes - these were simply called "Emotion"
- Medium/low-pressure Cast versions in 16", 17" were called "Emotion CR"
- Medium/low pressure Cast versions in 15" were called CR-Kai
- Single bolt holes only, unlike current Kai model with multiple
- Some available bolt patterns for first gen were discontinued when 2nd gen was introduced - approx 2004.

Second Gen
- Low pressure Cast
- Glossy color paint
- Custom colors available at additional cost (matte finishes, and color options)
- No rim lip flange as you see on CR-Kai
- Spoke definition is more like CR-Kai.. utilizes a beveled edge to make the spoke appear sharper and thinner.
- Forged versions discontinued
- Slightly different casting method used - low-pressure.
- Single bolt holes only, unlike current Kai model with multiple

Third Gen
- Low-Pressure Cast
- Matted color paint
- Rim flange lip
- Spoke definition (This is Emotion CR-Kai, which is currently selling)
- Multiple bolt holes (1 set are dummy holes - not used)
- Multiple finish options including chrome, black, matte/glossy, ect ...

Hopefully this will give you a better understanding of this popular wheel series by Work, and make identifying your particular generation a bit easier

Do the third gen not have the work stickers on inside and outside? I've seen some with and some without and wasn't sure if that was an option or something that disapeared from the third gens.
Also does anyone have the weight of these wheels in 17x7.5 or 17x9? (s2000 fitment)

That's cool. I see where some people sell the decals seperatly but I was hoping it was included. I also see where they come in 17 - x7,x8,x9 sizes. The x9 have the concave face on it. I'm thinking about running a 17x8 front and 17x9 rear on a s2000.

cool info dood! i used to have a 16" CR in gunmetal. rims were quite heavy IMO.
the center caps only came stock with the forged Emotions, which are quite rare...here's a pic of my friend's 18" forged Emotion (note the clear coated/glossy finish):

the CR's i had in comparison:
