Compliance bushing information
Any of you guys with 30k+ on your cars, sometimes even less will most likely need your front compliance bushings replaced. These are the lower control arm bushings in the front, that get loaded sideways.
These can cause your front suspension to sway, cause clunks, etc.
Found out today at work that there are 2 bushings, which can be interchanged.....one for the 01-03's, and another for 04-05. The difference: 01-03's are made in USA, while the 04-05's are made in Japan.
Installation dimensions are all the same, but the made in Japan ones are molded much beefier and should last longer.
So...next time you go to change yours out, definitely goi with the 04-05 bushings if you have an 01-03.

Yeah, mine just went out. They are squeaking badly. I'm going all out and getting pillow ball mounts down there for the rsx. So this is another option. http://www.clubrsx.com/cr/PCI-....html
should have posted this 2 days ago... thanks.
j/k i still have the bushing in the new pastic bag so i can go exchange it i guess...
got the 04-05 part number?
EDIT:
04-05::::: 51391-S5A-801 $14.43
01-03::::: 51391-S5A-024 $13.18
(according to http://estore.honda.com)
i might go buy one for the 04-05 and take comparison pix...
is there a price difference? EDIT: see above
I cant find the thread where someone (i think toyomatt) posted pix of the removal tools required and whatnot

so, i will, before install, take a pic of the one i have (01-03) and someone else can post a pic of the other

id spray some white lithium grease on your sway bar bushings for sure- see if that helps.
Belive me, you would know if they are busted, they make a horrible "poping" sound as if your suspension is going to fall off... and its mainly noticeable at speeds under id say about 35mph...

definately doesn't sound like that. maybe mine (compliane bushings) is still good but pics would help like evs-one will get so i'll know what to look at.
either way it's not my sway bar i know that. I've definately greased my endlinks and that has ceased the squeaks but since it gets dirty fast it makes noise quickly. i'm definately looking into buying 4 new endlinks from hotchkis once i get some $$$ in. I definately would like to take a look at the compliance bushings.
anyone got a direct link to them? i can't seem to locate them. here's a site i like to go to: http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/
i have a jist idea of where they might be but i'm still learning. pics pics! hehe

Gee, couldn't be that my Honda dealer in NJ is trying to rip me off? They called me when my car (2005 Accord 4-dr) was in for service and claimed I needed new compliance bushings and that it would cost me $440.00. Based on this post, the parts are about $15.00 per unit. So, how badly would I be getting ripped off?
Well really they are getting you on the labor, they do have to remove the control arms, press the old bushings out and put new ones in plus they will probably align the car too, however, my mom has a 2004 Honda Accord EX v-6 and she has 135,000 miles on it and the suspension is 100% original and no problems. She also works in Center City philly and drives there every day. Is there a symptom that they are trying to correct by replacing your bushings??
My '05 Accord has just 60,000 miles and is not displaying any problems (extra play in the wheel) or noises that would make me think there is a problem. However, I don't know cars as well as the folks on this site, so if anyone can coach me on what symptoms I might see if the compliance bushings were shot, I'd be grateful.
Banging noises upon bump impact is the most common. Play in the wheel is usually worn tie rods, although a compliance bushing that is deterioated enough certainly can cause play.
I'm at almost 76K and mine still look brand new...

if the bushing falls out like mine did, it will be hard to keep the car in a straight line, it was a very nerve racking experience trying to make that 7km drive to the garage when mine fell out, and by fall out i mean nothing left except the metal components.
Can't make this stuff up. Brought the car to the dealer for its 60,000 mile check. They checked the brakes, pads, rotated the tires and sent me on my way without mentioning any need for compliance bushing.
It's been 8 months since they first told me I need to replace them - did they get better? Are they self-healing? Or, perhaps was the dealer short on revenue for the month last October and needed to invent some work to close the gap? Just can't understand why people don't trust dealers.
