high build primer?
Is a 2k primer the same thing a "high build primer"? I have a c/f hood that's trahsed. I going to pick up a silver oem hood at a yard this weekend. Do i sand the hood down to the base coat or do i just have to scuff the clear? Also when i spray the high build will this take care of small dents and waves. I was going to spray a guide coat, then block. how do i fix the low spots from there? Do i add more high build or can i apply some sort filler or glazing putty, then block again? Sorry for the long question, but i really want to get it right the first time.
edit. the new color is blk. Nighthawk Blk pearl.

2K is a term for any material that is 2 components mixed together, primer and hardener/activator for example. A lacquer high build primer for example is not 2k. Your best bet is to use a quality urethane 2K high build. If you don't have much experience straightening a wavy/damaged hood, it could be tricky. Make sure its an OEM hood from the junk yard if your not getting it cheap, considering some new aftermarket hoods can be pretty cheap also. The panel fit is the risky issue with aftermarket though. Work the metal the best you can if needed, glaze/filler, block, then high build primer, block, ect.
powerflow, thanks for the quick response! The hood im geting from the junk yard is an oem for 175 in perfect conditiont.(no body work needed). Im painting it Blk from silver to match. my car. If the hood turns out ok im might try to paint the whole car. The waves are in the door panel. other than that the body is in great shape. Will sevral coats of high build primer fill the waves and dent's? and what dents it dont fill in can i apply a glazing putty over high build?
Problems can easily arise from trying to fill w/ many primer coats. Its ok if you have to prime more than once, but if its a wave or dent you need to apply a skim coat of glaze and block it smooth, level and feather it out, then prime. Get some Everoat brand glaze.
Do i have to take the waves and dent's down to bear meatal to fill them? If i was to repaint the car i would be re-painting the same color. The paint is in great condition, wouldint i want to leave as much off it a possible?
like powerflow said, don't try to build too much film thickiness from a material that are not meant to be "filling"
the thing you want to use is body filler, on the door/fender you need to bring it to the bare metal and use filler on that(other might disagree but from experience they sticks way better in with bare metal)
on the hood you might not even need high build primer(if it's in good condition), just go over it with a good layer of primer/sealer(esp when the color is that extreme)
