Default Running Lean

Okay so Guess what Im running lean.

Very bad, espically since I like to rev from hell and back.

Heres the senario, after I fixed the TPS sensor, everything was running great, better than ever. The butt dyno saw much noticable gains and the gas milage went up.

But it would only run great when the 02 sensor would trip itself. Which It has been doing for months, along with the EGR. But I dont have EGR on the Car, and I figured 02 sensor just needs to be replaced.

So the car would run crappy, like its not getting enough fuel or air, one of the two, causing a crappy running motor.

So just for the hell of it, since Im plain old tired out, cause I pulled my axel two days ago, rebuilt the CV axel and replaced the seal, Im soar as stuff from all the physical work.

So I decided to pull the plugs and clean them off with some carb cleaner. And they were white. The Spark Plugs were white and dried out.

Now I looked it up real quick in the Helms and it said, Pre-Detonation, or running rich.

What can I do.

I have a set of RF injectors I just picked up, they are 370cc over the 345cc oem. Would it be a good fix to use them for now.

Thanks

if its a stock motor on the stock proper ecu with the proper stock injectors, there is no need to change the injectors.

why dont you have EGR?
have you replaced the o2 sensor?

tell us what you have done so we can help you. All i got from your post was that your car was running "crappy" and that your plugs were white.

I blocked off the EGR. I couldnt figure why it wasnt working, and I replaced it once, and cleaned it out once. I came to the conlcussion that it(The IM) needed to be removed and ported and cleaned out. But I came to that conclusion in December. Too cold here to deal with it so I just Put a block off plate there.

No, I havent replaced the 02 sensor. It trips itself everynow and then and the car runs better.

The TPS was cracked from way back when I did my swap. And everytime I would pull the plugs they were carbon fouled(running rich). So last week I finally threw a code, and I had one on my h23 that I plugged into the h22 now. Its set at .48v closed.

Ever since I changed the TPS it runs periodicly good, but not consitant.

I'm going to add a question to this topic, if the wires on the o2 sensor are frayed or the plastic has been scraped off, should you replace it?

i think you could answer that yourself.

other solution would be to recover the opens.

Yea I did answer it myself just wanted to make sure I wasn't crazy, plus i'm actually getting better gas millage now that the wires are kind of exposed. I heard the bosch o2 burnout quick, so should someone go with the oem or is there somthing better?

Which is better ngk or denso they both have the oem type connection which will be a breeze, I guess I should replace the one before the cat too since i'm down there.

the secondary o2 sensor does not serve the same purpose as the primary o2 ( the one before the cat). The secondary's job is to test catalyst efficiency. Basically it tells you when the cat is not doing its job.

me personally, i would go NGK.

Any reason why it hasn't thrown a code at me since the wires are kind of frayed?

Thanks for the link to that site saved me like $200 from the greedy autozone. Instead only cost me $60 and some change.

I'm replacing both, even though I think the front one is ok, you never know.

Oh and i went with the NGK, I havent heard or read anything bad about them.

just because they are open, does not mean it wont work. It just means there is no protection to the exposed wire and the exposed wire could cross and ground out causing a problem.

What kind of thread sealer? Is "loctite blue" going to damage it or is there something better?

why do you need loctite? all that does is keep the bolt from backing out.

if you want to get something for the threads, get a thread protector that is made with teflon.

Well do i need thread protector or can i just install it without it, cuz it's down where all the heat is so i figure it will just burn up anything i put on it.

I would like to know where to get a wideband o2, anyone know where to get it at a good price.

Oh and don't you have to drill a hole in your manifold to use a wideband?

No one, but you said you get your o2 sensors on there, so I imagine you have a wide band, seeing as how they are pretty much nessary when tuning.

My plugs are fairly white and my car isn't running lean.

It's probably not too much timing either but who knows

Any who, update on the running lean issue. I went ahead with the install on the 370 RC injectors today.

New Injectors^^^^^

^^^^^Cruddy Old Injectors, The last pic is the new ones though
I just didnt trust the old injectors. The new ones fired right up and the motor just sounded better, running wise. Butt dyno says it was about the same in power, just more consistant with Vtec Hitting, and pulling harder at higher RPMs.

I have new videos Of Vtec Hitting and the Intial start up(I was expecting the Motor to blow at first) Ill edit the post later with the Vids.

VIDEO WITH VTEC
Intial Start Up
