b16a or b18b ?
Ok,well since i decided against selling my crx and im going to be keeping it for all eternity i think that a swap is in order. I want to start doing this when it cools off in the fall so i think somewhere in september or october and of course when i have more money,i only have about 2,300 saved right now just laying around. I want to start planning now. I heard the b16a is easier for wiring and that kind of stuff and you dont have to make as many changes but i heard the b18b is alot more daily driveable and has a considerable amount more torque. Im going to be driving locally and on expressways. I might want to start getting into autocross,im not really into drag or anything like that. Im going to be doing this swap myself and im a pretty competent wrench. I think i could handle it. lemme know whats the best bang for my buck and how much each of these swaps would run me....thanks, Ryan.
I'd go/went for a B18b...or you might want to consider a B20. Same block as B18 but with slightly bigger pistons and more torque. There are 2 kinds too, B20B and B20Z, Z has a tad higher compression and a newer model, i think.
Only drawback on a B20...if you'd consider this as one...None of the B-series stock pistons would work, i.e. CTR, ITR...but ARIAS and a few others make forged ones and equally or better than above mentioned pistons should you decide to build the block. Piston to valve clearance is tight too so advancing the timing too much is a no-no... But I heard good things about the CRVtec especially the exceptional torque and power it produces...
I have a LS now (although out of service at the moment thanks to theives), and I would reccoment it over a b16 any day of the week. With a b18b you can turbo, build it n/a or comvert to LS/Vtec 3 options vs. the 2 options of the b16. torque is what makes driving fun, and the LS has more than the b16. Displacement...you just cant beat it.
