i was wondering if you have to run a thermostat and what would happen if you didnt have one. any insite to this?

 

your car wouldn't warm up fast, if at all.

Is it cold where you live? If it is, that's not a good idea.. The Thermostat just regulates when and how much coolant flows to the radiator.

 

You can but don't do it for long, like one trip to the auto parts store and back. Without a t-stat the engine has a really had time getting up to temp, especially where I live, it's so feakin' cold my engine would never get up to operating temp = not good.

THat's why I asked where he lived. I remember sitting in a parking lot once when it was -4 out and my car actually got cold with the T-stat closed (I think I need a new one)

I think if you lived somewhere warm you'd be fine... No reason for it to over heat if your fans work/you're moving. I just wouldn't advise it... what's your reason?

ya i live in nv and i havent driven my car all winter and now its warming up only reason i ask is that my temp is a little high and im not burning coolant but like i said its a little high

 

Yes you need to run a thermostat.

 

hmm... I think you should find out the actual reason you're car is getting warmer instead of just taking out the t-stat.

 

what about if you have a block guard? ive been told that if you put a block guard in you arent suppose to have a thermostat.... not 100 % sure, but i would think the block guard would act like a thermostat right?

For Real?????????? It goes where the coolant flows in the block to keep the sleeves from moving....

It's a metal support that fits into the water jacket around the cylinders. Someone will post a photo soon.
