Default funky clutch

Hello, I have a 90 CRX Si, stock everything. The clutch is kinda funky in it and I'm not sure if it just needs replacing or if it could be something else. It drives ok except it needs lots of clutch feathering in order to shift smoothly. If I let out the clutch quickly/normally it will quickly and suddenly engage and the car will lunge forward. If I feather the clutch on the sweet spot, let it roll for a few (5-10) feet, while revving the engine and slowly letting it out gradually, it will shift smoothly. I guess this is called riding the clutch, but it's the only way I can seem to get it moving without a jerking/lunging effect.

My 85 CRX doesn't really behave this way so I'm wondering if it's my driving at fault here (being used to the older car and the more forgiving clutch) or if its the 90's clutch needing replacement. I've never done a clutch job so I may just take it in and have it done.
