Timing off?
I have a 99 Civic Ex with a b16a swap. I tried to set the timing but it won't set to the right amount. I'm told it's good to run 16 plus or minus 2 degrees or so on a stock b16 but the distributor is turned all the way to the advanced side and it's still not at 16, it's only at 12 if I remember right, I know it was lower than 14. Should I buy another distributor or could the problem be elsewhere? Also would this cause any noticeable decrease in power? Thanks
The timing should be set to the middle of the three timing marks on the crankshaft pulley. To correctly set the timing, the motor must be fully warmed up and the service connector jumped. (of course jump the service connector with the motor off)
I just re-set my timing this weekend when i installed my new cams.
1. are you sure the engine is in TDC from the crank pully mark (the single line mark) to the oil pump mark.
2. cam timing marks are set even. - -
3. Make sure the belt doesnt jump a tooth and you set the tensioner right.
4. When the timing light is applied you should have no trouble setting it. Should be easy as cake. Took me like 3 seconds to set it. Good luck
