Mysterious engine swap?
iam trying to buy a 91 ef from some little hole in the wall dealer...
he says that he swaped the motor to a single over head came d16 and all he needed to do still was tore wire the v-tec and replace the ignition relay...would this be possible cause i though d16 was dohc?? the car is real clean cosmetically but out side little rough 5 speed. ne way is 1700 too much??
thx for your time in replies

there is a ton of different d16 engines. you need the rest of the engin code. d16z6, d16a1, d16a6? you need to ask for the entire engine code.

also other Ds come with vtec or vtec-e.
if he did just a head swap it could have vtec depending what head is on the motor.

in my own opinion, 1700 is very high. i jus picked up a stock crx dx inspected running and everything for 500. find a beater for 500 bucks or so, then do the work yourself and you will be much more happy. im not telling you what to do, jus sum opinions. good luck
He's definitely asking too much for the car if teh body is "kinda rough".
I just sold my 90 Si with a very good body for $1400.
I guess it depends on your definition of rough, there are many shades of gray in that area when it comes to cars of this age.
Pics?

i think 1700 might be alot too
when i bought my SI i paid 1800 for the car and a complete sohc ZC swap (ecu, SI trans, etc. etc.) with a driver door, hatch and, alot of other crap pulled from another hatch (rear windows, hood, halo headlights ricer tailights) most of which i sold (minus the swap) shortly after buying the car wich pretty much paid for half of what i paid for the car
then i just recently picked up a DX with an LS swap for $1200 with a semi clean body (i pretty much bought this car for the swap and to get my little brother a starting point since i have a sohc ZC to swap into it
)
just my opininon on the subject....

Yes, it was to a good friend, she'll be well taken care of.
BTW I sold it back in Sep 07, I just love hanging around here that much. I definitely will get an ED again once I have a garage of my own.

A ZC is a ZC.
you can bolt up a B series Tb on a d16 so does that make it a B too?
It doesn't matter parts interchange, a ZC is a ZC. Not a B nor a D.

I guess it all boils down to the old 'what's in a name' thing. As far as I am concerned, arguing that a ZC is NOT a D-series is a little like saying that a pre-owned car is NOT used. Or like saying that North Korea is NOT a repressive country because it is a 'democratic republic'. The differences between, say, a DOHC ZC and a D16A8/D16A9 are, besides the stamp on the block, mere subtleties. The same goes for a SOHC ZC and D16A6.
