Default Engine ID location

I'm not sure whats going on, the car cranks, but wont start, and there is this piece of rod shaped metal sticking out of the oil pan, whats going on?

haha, only kidding. My question is on the ID plat of honda engines. I have a B16A1 to go back in my 1gen teg, but i'm having trouble figuruing out what is currently in there. The normal ID plate near the engine trans interface is missing. It looks as if it was cast WITHOUT the plate even there. It doesn't look ground off, just simply not there.

Anyone run across this before?

It should be stamped. The VIN plate is riveted to the block on some engines.

Take a pic and show us, take a pic of the stamp, where it should be. Take a pic of the engine, is it SOHC or DOHC, do you KNOW how to tell? Is it vtec; does it have a solenoid for vtec? Look at the head....on the front side of it under the valve cover where the actual head is you can see a stamp. I have a GSR head, it is stamped as p72-1. it should be above the headers, to the left, below the valve cover. Remember to take pics!

I'm an automotive engineer, I hope I can tell the difference from SOHC and DOHC.

Just looking for a yes or no... Yes, I have heard of an ID plate not bieng there, and here is why. OR NO, i have not heard of one, you are on your own.

Thanks, have a nice day.

Some replacement engines are not stamped with an engine ID number, but they still are stamped with the engine type. Perhaps the cylinder block was replaced.
