OT: Backcountry Snowboarding in Revelstoke BC - Few pics from my trip - 56K = No Way
Hey guys,
Just got back from an insane trip out to beautiful Revelstoke, British Columbia, Canada. The terrain out there is unbelievable. The new resort gondola gives you access to some of the most insane backcountry riding on this continent .... cliffs, steeps, chutes, heavy powder, drop cornices, trees, glades ... you name it. All you gotta do is pack you avalanche transponder, a shovel, and a few probes .. maybe a cell phone ... and start hiking. Hike to the summit is about an hour uphill, at about 60 degrees pitch. Some of the places I'm showing you here are about a 3 hour hike from the resort boundary. Well worth it! I only dragged my SLR out for one day because it's a bitch to ride with, so here's one day worth of pics.
Anyways, onto some pics:
Starting to hike the summit. Bye bye civilization!

Reached the summit .... wow .... that cornice is like 20 feet thick off a 100ft+ rock cliff

Holy crap ... *my heart was pounding by this point* What did I get myself into?

Some great lines in there ... Can you spot the people?

That's where we're headed .... Mt. MacKenzie summit (8000ft)

Let's start walking ... man those cornices are massive!

Looking over where we dropped in the day before ... huge big powder bowl under there if you're ok with freefalling for 15ft. It really wasn't all that difficult until I found out that the terrain below was a 70+ degree pitch
I almost killed myself. Keep walking!

Closer look of yesterdays drop point.

On our way up to the summit. About 3/4 of the way up the summit ... getting a really windy so no point going to the top

Those dudes are going though ... they ended up walking down to where we were and dropping from there. The face was the better ride that day anyways .... lots of pow to be had!

Fresh tracks anyone? We landed right where people payed $400 per day to go cat skiing. Lazy bastards

Stopping for a break ... Hiking is really tiring ... here's me at almost 8000FT in February in a t-shirt.

So fresh so clean ... This is what it's all about boys and girls

Time to strap in and put the camera away. AMAZING ride. This was the most memorable powder run of my life. Dropping the cornices into southbowl was the scariest!

Hope you enjoyed! Go to Revelstoke if you want some world class backcountry riding! Miles above anything else I've been to (Panorama, Kicking Horse, Whistler, Fernie, Big White ... ect..)
And just to make it ITR related, a recent engine bay shot of the R:

wow! awesome. is there a set trail that you have to take to get back to the base?
how does that work? When i watch people heli board/ski.. seems like anything goes.. they drop you off at the peak. and you make your way down to the base... is that the same on your trip?

I don't think me or my old Forum would make it down that.

Ryan,
Those pictures are simply amazing... and looks like you had a blast as well!!
Your engine bay shot makes me miss my car. It will be another couple months I think before I'm in Canada again. When I do come back we will most definitely have to hook up.

Yep, same basic principle here, but you hike to the summit. You're on your own when you get to the bottom. The day these pics were taken, we only had 1 run. We started at the base at 9:00am, and didn't get back until 4:00PM. Four hours total hike to get to the summit, 3 hours hike to get back to civilization. My legs are now tree trunks
Doug, hope to see ya when you get back
Thanks for compliments everyone!
