REQ: LSD Advice (What to Buy)
I am looking to upgrade to a clutch type lsd, what brands are there that have replacement parts easily attainable as they need rebuilding occasionally. Links to replacement parts would be appreciated as most of the lsd's can easily be had.

I am looking for advice in this area as well.
With the recent re-tune of my track car, it's pushing 240 HP on Dynojet, and I am not sure I'm going to be satisfied with the OEM Torsen axle any longer.

most of the enthusiasts I have encountered while in Japan all like the cusco units. They tell me it's because of their adjustability and a design that helps circulate oil better inside the unit itself. They use the RS version.

Do they have the parts to rebuild them? I didn't see them, but that doesn't mean that they don't have them. I don't want to have to go through a big hassle when it is time to rebuild it trying to track down parts.

I am in a similar position and I do like the cusco RS units. What would a typical timeline be before a rebuild would be neccessary? A full race season, 1/2, 3 races?

I don't want to assume that they do, but it would be best to contact them directly. I've only inquired about the availability of the units themselves, and actually haven't even confirmed whether or not they have the new adjustable lock features for the FF versions.

There is a test you can perform to determine the locking strength of the unit, it is something for the techs of the actual product though.

No argument from me either. I've had a kaaz and my friend still has one and they were quick on the phone and even on the emails when he was inquiring about the rebuild and hey, even quicker in person when I was at their booth during SEMA.

I've heard some criticism about KAAZ diffs, but never saw any real justification. Anyone in that camp care to share? ATS/Carbonetics I've never heard complaints about, but I know they carry a heftier price tag.

The kaaz issue seems to stem from the brittle/small nubs at the very edge of the metal clutch plates. Mista Bone has broken them with hard drag launches. But this is on a SOHC setup, I'm not sure if the DOHC ones are beefier or if its a different design altogether - as I don't have access to the unassembled DOHC specific kaaz unit at the moment.
The ATS metal unit is something Wai has, so hopefully he will be able to chime in here later on.... I know he's got some personal matters to attend to though...
The carbon units have blown apart mysteriously and after speaking to Carbonetic at SEMA, they seem to be aware of the problem, but have not been able to hunt down the specific cause. They have cited that some failures are associated with the use of other brands of fluids which HAVE friction modifiers. However, their recently defunct (USA) website states that the carbon units DO NOT need friction modifiers.
But if you look at the carbonetic website, they DO NOT have a carbon LSD specific fluid - so who to believe? Well, I'm sure carbonetic is going to tell you "for optimum performance and reliability, we recommend the use of our fluids" .... blahblah...blahblah.
I answered a post before on the specifics of this, I believe in the tech forum, but I am FAIL at the search at the moment..
.and could only come up with this for now.

My Kaaz unit has almost 3 seasons of racing on it. That is about 10 weekends a year with a practice/qual/race each day. I have also done a handfull of test days. IN NorCal we do standing starts, and ask any one who i race with i am not nice on my shifts. Not that there is anything wrong with the way i shift but i don't ***** foot around.
No issues at all untill my POS SRR FD exploded and destroyed a lot of stuff in the tranny.
Currently going to run a back up until i can get a re-build unit for my tranny.
I also crew for a few teams we have ran 4 25 hour races all with Kaaz units working great the whole race and in sprint races the fallowing year.
I have never had seen any Kaaz diffs having issues, which is why i bought the one for my car.

here's the thread I answered with regards to the fluid and some other links I dug up when I was hunting around about the specific cause of the failure... of course I couldn't come up with a definitive reason.
I'm not even sure ATS/carbonetic knows why and if they did, would they ever admit to it being fluid related or parts related.

how does the quaife make the car lose straight line mph? Is it because it's a bit heavier than some clutch packs? Or is it because it doesn't allow the car to corner as aggressively thus leading to better exit speed?
