Oil in dizzy and question on dizzy rotor button.
Im troubleshooting some problems in my z6 so i take cap off the dizzy and find oil in it (which explains my mystery leaks i've been looking for, yay!) I have another dizzy (d15b7) im taking apart as refference, and i cant figure out how to get the rotor button off. I took its screw out and tried pulling it off and nothing. So how exactly does it come off, and are there some interior o-rings around the shaft inside the dizzy, or whats causing it to leak inside? Also, is it fixable or do i need a new one. I have searched this.
Actually, a faulty O ring won't put oil inside the dizzy. However, the seal on the shaft itself will cause this. To replace this seal, you have to pull all the guts out of the dizzy. Not really too bad to do but make sure you use a #1 philips to take the screws out of everything but the coil or you'll end up with stripped screw heads. Match mark the "drive" before you take the pin out as it WILL go back on either way.
No, the O ring seals the distributor body to the head. The "seal" I'm talking about is in the dizzy body and then the actual shaft goes through it. It looks like a baby rear main seal; it's not an O ring that I'm talking about. I have a dizzy apart right now that I robbed the internals out of. I'll go out and take a pic and post up the seal I am speaking of.

Nice photos. Based on your pictures and my posted diagrams, either a bad O ring, shaft seal, or cap seal could allow oil to enter the distributor, depending on the source of the oil leak.
im having this same problem my shaft seal is bad.. did you happen to find any at stores or did you have to find a donor dizz to take seal out of?
ONLY, i repeat ONLY a bad shaft seal on the distributor will allow oil to leak INTO the distributor.
If oil is leaking down the side of the block and onto the tranny, but not into the distributor, then the o-ring is shot.
A lot of people get confused betwen the o-ring and the shaft seal. THe o-ring takes about 10minutes to replace. The shaft seal is a little more indepth, but there is a writeup for it (I think it is in the faq section).
