High RPM at High MPH. Also running rich.
Just recently bought a 1996 GSR. My concern is that at 70MPH in 5th gear it hits 3000RPM. Isn't that a little high? Seems to me like it would be burning much fuel at this rate.
Also, this is stock JDM, but it's running rich. I can smell fuel from the exhaust. Any suggestions on what to check on this?
*Edit*
I just took the car out on the highway to check it out. In 5th gear I'm getting:
2700RPM @ 60MPH
3100RPM @ 70MPH
3500RPM @ 80MPH
4000RPM @ 90MPH
4500RPM @ 100MPH

i know the stock GSR
5th gear 60mph=3k
5th gear 80mph=4k
so no that seems low. like said before maybe u have an LS tranny, and yes u dont wanna cruise at 70 80 90 mph if ur looking for mpg

Hahaha! You made me laugh brother. Honda engines live at 3000rpm +. I've driven by B16A for hours at 4k and it doesn't even wimper.

Any CEL? could be an O2 sensor.

You'll be just fine at 3000 rpm, in my JDM ITR swap, at 120 km/hr ( ~76mph) I'm near 4300. I've done long trips with the rpm close to 5000 for extended periods of time, and the car is fine, even gas millage is still quite good. Keep in mind that alot of fuel consumption has to do with throttle position and not as much with RPM
You waste the most gas just going to stop lights and stopping and speeding up again. Your car has more kinetic energy and momentum when in motion than at a complete stop. The car has to do a lot more work speeding up from 0 than it is from 60
. I actually got better gas mileage on my gsr on the freeway going 4200rpm than in traffic jams. Also make sure your thermostat switch sensor is working, it could be sending a rich signal.

And look into getting a S80 or a Y21 tranny.

B18B1 (Hydro):
S80/Y80
This is probably the easiest b-series transmission to find because it's found in every non-VTEC 94-01 Integra. Most notably, this transmission is the longest of all b-series transmissions and has the weakest synchro's and weakest differential.

You sure you know what you're talking about?!!!

*edit*
I looked up another Web Site Which shows the S80/Y80 being the original GSR engines and the Y21 being on all R models. Is this right?

3.4k-4k cruising at 70~ as everyone else
you should be fine lol check your mpg rate if its below 25 then theres a problem assuming your driving in terms of normal
