Try a compression test maybe?
I found one compression tester for 10 dollers (Its made by Powerfist, and its quite the excellent tool for 10$)
Its almost a necessity to have one, as they have a veriety of uses. One thing I learned recently in understanding the compression is that the Chilton Manual I have (Haynes knock off subsidary) sucks *** and dipicts the compression test in point form and is very unexpanded with no pictures. Either way though just make sure your partner is pushing in the gas while cranking the car around 3 cranks and that should set your compression dial (that your holding)to what your cylinder is compressing @.
If you say you have, gas and spark, than compression or perhaps something more serious like timing belt could be the issue.
