Default speedo and tach..

so im drivin around and my speedo decides it wants to bounce and then stop working and sit at 0.. then randomly later it bounces again and goes back to my speed. that all happened a few times first then today im drivin and my tach just keeps goin all the way around and stays pointed straight down and doesnt work at all.. im guessin theres not too many diff reasons for this so what do yall think

Speedo is probably the vss (vehicle speed sensor) and the tach issue is probly the dizzy, just my opinion.

my tach did the same.... take off ur distributer cap and there will be a loose wire. slide it back on the prong thing and u should be all good. im guessin ur speedo has the same problem, i jus donno where that wire is. they bounce around becasue when u hit a bump or even jus because the wire will make contact with the prong for a moment.

hope that helps.

i would have to say its highly unlikely that your vss and dizzy are bad. i would say you have a bad gauge cluster, or a bad connection to it. idk why everyone thinks two problems in the same place is cause by two things in very different places. get a volt meter and check for voltage from the vss and tach signal to rule those two out. then figure out weather its a bad connection or a bad cluster.

I agree. I had a similar problem and it wasn't my VSS. I retightened the screws behind the speedometer and it fixed the problem.
