Default Recommended throttle body size for H22A

I want to get an aftermarket throttle body for my H22A and I was wondering what would be the best size TB to get for it considering it is basically all motor with a P28 ECU and custom H22A tune, I/H/E and MSD Ignition.

I was thinking of tryin that Maxbore guy as well who bores out these things...

i THINK OEM STANDARD IS 62 MM ON THE H22 TB. SOME GUYS GOT 70 MM TB. MAX BORE WILL BORE YOUR TB OUT, BUT IT MAY ONLY BE SO FAR IT CAN BE BORED OUT. H23 TB CAN ONLLY BE BORED OUT TO 64MM, H22 IS 2MM BIGGER SO IM BETTING THAT TB CAN ONLY BE BORED OUT TO 66MM. ITS COMPLETLY UP TO YOU, BUT DONT FORGET YOU WILL NEED A TUNE.

I purchased a nice looking, reasonably priced, 70mm tb from DH Racing.
Nothing to complain about here!

Yes they do say that, but in this case its not always right.

I can't answer your question as i'm looking for the same answer lol, but if you list your exact specs and what you want to use the cat for someone will be able to give you a better answer.

I spoke to Skunk 2 and they recomended 68mm for my DD build:

SMSP header
3" exhaust
88mm bore
12:1 CR
Pro 1 cams
3" intake
Mild port work (just a clean up really) and a 3 angle valve job
Tuned on a P28 S200

I'm not going for all out power, mid range TQ is what i'm looking for.

I hope thats of some help

Yeah I was thinking around 65 to 68mm. I heard that too big can be worse that the stock TB. I am just lookin for better throttle response, acceleration and maybe a few hp. I use to have a 62mm BBK in my DOHC-ZC (before I went H22A) and I remember when I changed the stock TB on the ZC to the BBK, I could instantly tell a a difference in the acceleration and throttle response.

As mentioned, my setup is pretty much a stock motor with the usual bolt ons and a P28 ECU with a custom tune H22A fuel map.

I got my 68mm bored out from the max bore guy I have basic bolt ons for now. I did gain a bit of power but i think i need a tune to get all the power. (allthow i have a S2 IM.) I recomend for you to go with a 68mm. (it took 2 weeks in total time to get mine bored out, but i live in ID and that guy is from FL)

i'm using that exact throttle body. it looks like a stock one only a hell of a lot bigger!! no sticking issues (some of the other TB's tend to have a sticking butterfly) and they are damn cheap. 130 bucks!

Yeah you need a tune, a bigger TB will let more air into the chamber, and will change your A/F ratio, meaning more Parts air and same parts fuel.

LOL, mine is currently running rich with a phearable.net H22A chip on a P28 ECU. Maybe the bigger TB would even things out a little...

Funny you mentioned that, my BBK Edelbrock TB in my old DOHC-ZC use to stick sometimes but I bought it used and it did look really used so I guess I should be happy. I sold it with that motor... DOHC-ZC was a good reliable motor, but the H22A - whoa I rest my case.

Hey what about the intake manifold - should I just leave it as it is with the stock port opening or get one of those adapters that DH-Racing sells which fits onto bigger TB's and tapers down to the size of the stock intake manifold port...

I will not be able to port match the manifold right now, because I cannot take it out of the car since it's in an EG which involves taking the whole motor out and I will not be taking the motor out anytime soon. Thanks!

honestly stay clear of DH-racing... that guy is a joke.. you can just take the top portion of the manifold off. you don't have to take the whole thing off. i have a port matched manifold for sale if you want? you can just change the top peice of it with yours. i also saw a gain from removing the butterflies. i just took that whole center section out. pm me if you are intereste.d

You're better off saving your money for some cams and valvetrain or something, a throttle body wouldn't get you much.

I recommend against that MSD ignition as well, it is unnecessary and unreliable.

The MSD stuff is not doing anything, and it can go out at any time.

It has a built in Rev Limiter which works pretty well.
