Car shuts off when I hit patch of ice?
Well somethings seems not right here. we've been getting a lot of icy days lately unfortunately Ive been caught on the highway twice with them. 1st time I hit a patch on a bridge and car started sliding but instantly shut off. Thought it was weird but didn't think much of it was more worried about not wrecking. Then Tuesday we had bad ice again. Hit a patch black ice at about 35 car spun out a little, but again shut off instantly as I started sliding. Just wanted to know why this may be happening never had a car to do this.
Have you tried intentionally losing traction i.e. doing a burnout?
I'm curious to see what would happen there. I'm thinking something ignition related for some reason....

manual tranny. doesnt do this when doing a burnout. only had this problem with ice. yes i did hit the brakes when i hit the ice, but it shuts off almost instantly when i start sliding dont think its brakes locking the motor up? think its got anything to do with the light flywheel and or stage 2 clutch?
What JT says makes sense... Are you sure you didn't accidentally brake and lock up the wheels without putting in the clutch? Otherwise, the problem doesn't make much sense.

i said nothing about locking the engine. when you lock the brakes then yes in turn it locks up it and stalls out. and that is EXACTLY what you are doing. accept it or not but thats what it is...

Just think about it. It's the exact method some people used to keep the engine from turning when removing the crank bolt.
1. manual tran
2. tranny in gear
3. off the clutch
4. step on the brake
5. engine won't turn as a result

What's your procedure when you are in an emergency. I know when I need to slam on the brakes in a manual my foot always goes for the clutch first, if not, then you'll get a stalled motor. You probably never had it happen before because you probably usually do that but didn't in these rare instances.
