Don't see too many hard hits getting repaired in here, so check it out
Hey guys, I've seen some good respray threads in here but I haven't seen too many really hard hits get repaired, so I figured I'd snap a few pictures of a project I'm working on right now.
Its an 05 Ford Taurus and as you can see its pretty far gone. Unfortunatly progress will be moving pretty slow, since I can't work on it every day, but hopefully it will be done on the frame bench next week and I can start removing the parts from the donor and getting them fitted up.
Anyway, here is the car:

as you can see its on the bench in these photos, already in the clamps and anchored. I also have the gauges hung and took measurements. The car is actually really far out of spec, not that is any suprise, and its going to take a lot of work to get it back to normal.
here you can see there is also some buckles in the passenger quarter panel:

those should come out during the pulls though.
Heres the setup for the first pull:

I'm using all 3 towers to pull this time. In the picture you can see I've already started the pull and its come out some.
Here is the next pull, with only 2 towers.

As you can see it brought it out a fair amount and I was able to remove the spare and get some more stuff out of the way.

I also set up and completed a third pull, but forgot to take any pictures. I'll try to snap some tomorrow and post them up. I'll continue to post pictures throughout the entire process and answer any questions if you guys think this is interesting, just let me know.

i take it your a professional body man?
looks like you have alot of work ahead of you

How the hell is that not totalled. LOL. I do the same for a living. Don't you just love Chief? Takes all of like 15 minutes to measure as long as you get a good center section.
How do you like the towers? Never used that type before.
Well looks like a crap load of work, wish you luck with it.

haha oh, its totalled. I probably should have mentioned that in the first post. It will have a salvage title when its done and it will get sold then. I really do like the Chief benches, lots of power and pretty easy to use. And yeah, measuring is a breeze. And, I wasn't actually aware that there were other types of towers? We use a 'remote' tower or whatever sometimes, like if we need to do a pull from the side, past where the towers will swing. But other than that I've never used any different kind, so I can't really compare. I don't have any complaints with them though. For the 3rd pull I did that I don't have any pictures of, I just used 1 tower hooked up to the rear frame rail, and it got up to around 4500 lbs of pressure and it was still pulling it out further
I didn't really have the ***** to push it too much further than that haha. I had a blanket thrown over the chain, with a dead chain wrapped around that, but I was still scared to see what kind of damage that much pressure would do if the clamp let go. Brought it out like 30mm though, the rail was in around 40mm when I started, so just a little more to go.

the passenger side is relatively untouched. The quarter should be fine, and the passenger rear frame rail is pretty much fine, there is only a little sway in it. We considered clipping it, but then decided against it. The pulls I've done that are pictured are basically to correct some center section misalignment and also to correct some of the sway in the back end. After I'm done pulling it will all get cut off anyway. Clipping cars also is not recommended by a lot of automakers, although I actually don't know offhand whether Ford approves it or not.
We do clip cars sometimes, in fact there is a cobalt a few bays down that I just put in the clamps. I'm not going to be the one working on it, so I don't have too many pictures of it, but as soon as the donor comes in someone will be clipping this:

that thing is JACKED, the neither of the drivers side doors open and its an all around mess. I'm glad I just had to put it on the rack, I don't want to work on that thing haha. the car is trashed inside too, I found a gross *** condom in the passenger seat

Pretty cool my stepdad is a bodyman.I see this at his shop all the time.Generally when a car is hit in the rear it's much more saveable then the front.Unless the engine is in the rear I'am going to post pictures of the work he's done tommorow. You guys are going to freak.
lol
lol
You can answear if you want but do you guys get those cars from a contract with insurance companies or do you buy them and make a profit on it. You guys must really be damn good and fast cause my employer tells me he used to clip cars back in the day and sell them for a profit but with the price of parts and the fact that you really aren't supposed to clip cars, we don't do it anymore.
I don't know if there is more than one tower style, I was just refereng to the fact that it is a tower. I use a dozer style on a drive over system. If I can find a picture of the system then I will through it up. I can do any pull on it. I also use an older frame machine that uses vector pulls. I love pulling metal.
I would'nt even want to work on the one you are working on lol. On the first pull picture, what is the name of that yellow clamp you are using? Looks like it goes into existing body holes.

actually, the pictures aren't from my work. I'm taking a frame class at a college and this car is one of my projects. They get the cars from insurance companies, and since the labor is free (students) they are able to turn a profit. I can't imagine ever doing a job this extensive at my work and making any profit.
Definitely post some pictures up of that frame machine, I'd like to check that out, I don't think I've ever seen that before.
And the yellow clamp you're talking about, yeah it is through an existing body hole, you can actually see the hole from the picture from the second pull. Its actually not a Chief clamp, I stole it from a Car-o-Liner machine across the aisle from me, haha. Works great though. There is a thick metal plate that screws on the inside of the hole, and the yellow arm is held on by a pin. You can put different arms on it depending on what direction you want to pull. Sorry, I don't know the name of it though.

That's the frame machine I use most. I can put just about any car on it and do any pull with it. I love that thing.
