ok so im going to install my turbo pretty soon here, but have come upon a dilemma.

first i need to get a custom downpipe made as well as catback system, so im assuming that means the turbo system needs to be installed.

second i somehow need to move this car 100 miles so i can get it tuned by a dealer that tunes with neptune.

now i dont really want to use an AFC but im thinking thats the best option. by doing that i can run my 450cc injectors, pull the wastegate spring and pray i dont go into boost, but at this point im thinking i dont have many choices. or maybe i should rent a truck from some car rental place and rent a trailer from uhaul or something for a weekend. what would/did you guys do if/when you were in my position. are there any options im overlooking here?

Id rent a truck and trailer. But i dont know if im just playing safe. 100 miles seems pretty far to even try... Thats me tho.

 

I would keep your original injectors on there and drive it light throttle so it doesn't boost. Damage will only happen under load. A little bit of boost wont hurt. You could run high octane and retard the base timing to the low side of spec if you think it will help.

 

I would call a tow truck.

Do you have any idea how much a tow truck would cost for a hundred miles!!
maybe find someone with a pickup with a Three point hitch and rent a dolly thing.
Or just baby it for the 100 miles. But thats going to take a long time..

everybody knows someone with AAA
if they are a plus member you get 100 miles free
just have them there when the tow driver shows up to show their card/id, and have them assign you as the "Acting Agent"

you will then be responsible for any charges over 100 miles.

i'm a former AAA supervisor, trust me.

 

how quick are you at wrenching?? get as much of the setup put on as you can, keep your header, and everyting on, just connect the oil feed and return lines together, then when you get there swap injectors, and throw the manifold and turbo on, then get it tuned. that would be the cheapest but most time consuming.

 

keep the stock injectors on, and disconnect the wastegate.....drive speed limit and you should be fine...change your injectors when you get there

or order a basemap from a vendor such as xenocron, pherable.net, j-ktuning

 

stock injectors and easy driving, save you alot of $

 

dude if u got the money to drop on a turbo kit then you sure as hell should have the money to trailer it and do it the right and SAFE way

personally i would rent a trailer and have my friend put his hemi to use..lol..i couldnt go 10 miles without driving a little hard on my car..hope u solve your dilemma

 

a tow dolly is like around 100 something bucks. just call uhaul. and ask a friend who has a truck. everyone knows someone who has a truck with a hitch.

 

it all depends on what turbo he has he could have a turbo that doesnt spool later. You can drive the car out of boost . Just dont mash the pedal and watch the rpms. My first turbo in my d16 was a t25 and it spools pretty quick and I was able to keep it out of boost to the tune station.

 

Reaching full boost at like 1,900RPMS?

 

the engine is a b16
the turbo is a garrett t3/t04e .57 trim

 

wow im really suprised nobody has said this yet but heres the winner forget everything mentioned above. install the entire turbo kit. do everything but injectors. the when you go to drive, disconnect the charge piping from the throttle body put your stock intake on and drive to there. once you get there reconect it to the TB, throw in the injectors in and there ya go. easy as that.

Good idea

You could also get a basemap from phearable.com and install the entire kit. With a basemap would be able to drive around and make sure all the kinks are out before you get to the tuner and possibly waste time, thats what I would do.

I drove on a phearable basemap for 30k miles with 16 psi lol. Its only $30 too lolz

I like that one but the best solution is to tune it yourself

 

trailer the vehicle...

 

Rent a u-haul hitch.

 

i def would not drive it, if i had to drive it, i would put the stock injector's in it b4 i did and keep the boost down.
