Default cams/crank at TDC, distro all the way back, timing still very advanced

put on the belt, triple checked for tdc. cranked the engine, alternator somewhat retarded, timing was way off. pull the distributor as far away as it can and the red mark is still like 2 inches on the right. what is that like 30btdc!

triple checked TDC again and all is lined up.

skipped a few teeth? i thought that was only if tdc was off. i turn the crank several times and recheck and its all lined up. i redid the belt and same thing. what could be wrong?

You probably just need to re-stab your distributor.
