oil pressure question on my d16z6
i just replaced my pcv valve, and when i bring it up to redline my oil pressure goes to 80psi, before i replaced it, it went to 60psi. it also leaks oil from my oil cap now when it didnt do it before......do i have too much oil pressure or what?
tit should normally be 60-70 psi at redline, but replacing your pcv would actually help the engine breathe better when it comes to crankcase vapor, it may be a stuck oil pressure relief valve in the pump itself but sounds like the you just need a new oil cap,its only 10 psi over stock spec, dont worry about it unless you having serious problems

I know on warm up my car see 80 lbs and near redline it get up that way too but as long as you have the valve in the right way and you have normal pressure at idle after its warmed up I wouldn't worry about it. And as far as the hule cap leaking its gotta just be the seal
the cap never leaked before till the pcv valve was change, when my car is warmed up it goes to 80psi at redline and when im at idel its at 25-29psi and when im cruising at 40mph in 5th gear its at 38-40psi
not sure about the cap but the oil press seem a lil high to me but ever car is a lil different. The numbers don't seem to to be too bad tho. You might wanna get the correct valve and see what that does
yea im probly going to get it done tomorrow and see what happens because i dont take my car out in the snow lol
high oil pressure wont hurt anything for right now , will it?

My oil pump is shimmed and it goes up over a 100 psi. I never have any problems with oil leaking from my oil cap or anywhere else for that matter. I think your problem is somewhere else.

then do you think its was my oil cap gasket? i just put a almost new oil cap on today but i have not taken it out yet to see if it still leaks from the cap

If a PCV valve is stuck closed and your valve cover breather is blocked up, you will build crankcase pressure higher loads. Adding pressure to the crankcase can in theory increase oil pressure, since oil pump inlet is at a higher pressure. The problem is that the oil bypass in the pump opens when the oil pressure is 50-60psi higher than the crankcase pressure.
Either you put the PCV valve in wrong, or your oil pump's bypass spring/oriface is not working properly.
FYI once warmed up, a normal L4 Honda motor should be ~10-15psi at 750rpm, and >50psi at 3k rpm and above.

well so you think there is anything messed up in my motor? and how do you put the pcv valve in wrong? i put it in the way it came out. at at around 3-4k its at 46-52psi

the PCV will NOT affect oil pressure, it will affect gas crank case pressure.
If there is more pressure from the crank than vacuum from the IM (which is controlled by the PCV), then you will leak past your oil cap and intake arm breather tube which is the 2nd half of your PCV system.
I would just go and get the $3 part, and know your safe.

alright, so i just got back in from looking at my car and i found something that looked like it some sort of gasket sealant or something plugging up the the part on my intake where the oil breather hose goes into, so could that be the problem?
im pretty sure its fixed now, it doesnt idle surge anymore, oil pressure at redline is about 65-68psi, it doesnt leak oil anymore and runs a hell a lot better after i unplugged the intake and got the right pcv valve in. thanks everybody who helped/tried to help
