Default Rust on an HPDE car?

ok, everyone, don't flame me too bad.. i've got an EF here, DX sedan with an Si drivetrain, and it's just kinda sitting at work. it'd be a perfect platform for a track-day car for me because it already has a few mods, GC coilovers and random strutbars, the Si swap but it's also got new axles and a new clutch. total investment for this car is about $1500 right now. i've removed a lot of pieces and rebuilt them and what-not. i was planning on selling it and moving on to something else, but since it's already a decent car, i was thinking of using it for the track instead or additionally to my miata. both me and my wife want to do track-days, and my wife wants to eventually be in honda-challenge. well, i'd like to get her into a honda ASAP, but i don't want to lay down the money for a nicely built race car just yet, and was thinking the sedan would be a perfect track car for her instead of the miata. don't get me wrong, the miata is awesome because it's almost stock, besides brakes, shocks, tires and a roll bar, but if she'll eventually be racing a honda, i kinda want her to start out with one... anyways, enough back-story, onto the problem...

the body isn't in the best shape and there's rust along the rockers.. i'm not talking about car splitting apart, i'm talking about surface rust, but there is about a quarter size hole in the passenger footwell. how horrible is this? will it even pass tech? should i take it to someone and get a patch panel put in? i don't think this car will be her honda challenge car because i'd prefer to start with a much cleaner car if i even build one ourselves, if not buy a race car, but because it's just sooooo cheep and i've already got the suspension here, all i'd need is some decent front pads and some some-what sticky tires, aka falkens, would it be worth it because of the rust issue?

thanks for reading my novel..

picture time!!! example of rust (this is where the hole is)

(sorry, turn your head and cough to view picture correctly..)

looks like you need to run the heck out of that thing at the track..

we've had MUCH rustier cars on track, not having any problems

Keep that car and have fun with it!!! Oh, for that rust hole you could do what I did with my previous rusty Prelude - good ole aluminum tape then spray paint it. No more rust hole.

This car will be great for you! I had a lot more fun when I switched from a car I really cared about to a car I could just have fun on the track with and drive. From the sounds of it, this seems like it's in much better shape than my Prelude was when I first started racing it. When I used to take that car to the shop, I had to tell them not to put it on a regular lift and instead use an alignment lift.

Do it!
