Default Indash Kit/Location

I'm very disappointed in my civic's dash installation kits. I have a 97 civic. I'm trying to install the cd player on the top where the radio controls are. The kit they have is on the bottom. I'm short, so the top would be the best location in terms of me reaching the buttons and visibility. What a bummer design to split the system in different locations!!

I read up on converting it to a 99 up, but it would require me to get the whole unit behind the dash. (Not something i want to do).

I dont know of any kits that would make the cd player fit on the top. Anyone seen one? i'm sure i'm not the only one.

I'm not really understanding what you're wanting to do.

In a '97 Civic, there's really only two locations to mount a radio. In the factory location, and down behind the cupholders.

There's really only one type of dash kit for your car; and it's not even really a kit. It's a trim ring that takes up the angled spot on the left side of the deck.

If you had a '99+ Civic, there's a double din opening, and you could flip the kit upside down, mounting the radio on the bottom and have the pocket on the top. But in the '96-98's, this isn't an option.

This is the kit you need to install an aftermarket HU in the OEM dash location... http://www.scosche.com/product...D/100, if your car has an OEM key-less entry you have two options, use a "T" harness... http://www.scosche.com/product...D/301 and leave the stock HU behind the dash... http://www.installdr.com/Insta...3.pdf

Or get this harness... http://www.scosche.com/product...D/597 remove the stock HU compleatly and install an aftermarket alarm and use the door lock outputs to give you key-less entry. 94

Would you buy a new car without an audio system?? It's not like the dealership is going to lower the price by 1000's just because there's no CD player installed.

I'm pretty sure he means why would they put the key-less entry R/F section in the radio.
My guess is some engineer figured it was a way of cutting cost, why install another R/F section when you already have on in the radio, that is a non-delete option. 94

i have a cd player in my 97 with the trim kit and i say it looks perfect. I didnt really mind losing the keyless due to the fact that when i bought the car it didnt have the keypad for doorlocks so what i did is get an old rattler remote start/keyless and only hooked the doorlocks for the time being while i get the python 990 here at work...........yes rs on a stick can be tricky but can be done......
