Default do i need to replace my rings?

I'm not sure if i should replace the rings on cyl 1.... the head gasket was bad but could i get away with not changing the rings?

those big scores going down the bore doesn't look too pretty! does it smoke at all?.. i'd say you might as well replace the rings if it's a fairly high mileage anyway, wont take that much to do since you've got the head off anyway..

don't know what you'd do about the bore though, i'm sure someone else will answer that, if, it is, as bad as it looks i doubt a hone would do the trick? i could be wrong

if in doubt.. change it!

ya you can but think about it how long do you think it's going to last?? do you want to be doing this same think over again in a year, put it this way if you have no other car, then f it check if the heads warped or block, if it's good then slap a head gasket on and some copper spray, and be on your way. if this is just a car that you can have down for a while then, do it right, and rebuild it. good luck it's up to you.

i don't know if it was smoking since i bought the motor when it was out of the owner's car.

I'm just not sure if i could get away with just replacing the head gasket or would I need to really do the rings

should i do all 4 rings? would it be worth it? or just do the 1 cylinder?

I'd say if you're going turbo and one pistons rings have failed it's probably wise to replace the whole set of 4.

i'm no expert and it's hard to tell from teh pics but you're going to have to hone the cylinder anyway so see how that turns out..

run your nail along the inside of the cylinder and see if your nail catches the score, if it does there's probably something you should do about it, if not, you may be ok? as i say i'm no expert lol.. someone else will know better.

You need to disassemble the engine and get the block light honed. Once you have the rods/pistons out you can take a look at the rings and the ring lands

If you could put your nail over it and it catches your nail then you need to go either OS or another mm to clear it. That involves new pistons/rings for the bigger size.
