please help - need some ideas for racing number magnets
I'm sick and tired of tape and paper letters at events so I decided it's time to break down and buy some magnets.
Can you guys post up some pics of your cars with racing number magnets from autocross or track events? I've got a basic idea of the style I think I want (think realtime racing), but was hoping to see some pics of what everyone else has. I've seen several I like so far and figured it'd be easier to send a picture of what I want to the person making them for me then just trying to describe it.
Also, anyone had problems with magnets scratching their paint?

I keep my magnets clean and wipe them down before sticking them on for an auto-x. As far as design, nothing fancy, I just use some modern font that I forgot the name of. Got mine done at FastSigns.
The whole sheet is magnetic, and the numbers are vinyl, so they could be changed if I needed. I was worried they might fly off at speed, so I taped down the leading edge, and didn't have any issues. It's hard to tell from the pic, but the text at the bottom says https://honda-tech.com.
Here's mine. Note that I just got the stuff that morning at the course, so I didn't have time to cut out all the stuff on the 69, and around the edge of the surround. I also had a couple short pieces made afterwards so I can extend the number box to accomodate the extra digit if needed. The space under the club decal is for class designation, but I haven't needed it as yet. The series I've done so far doesn't require the class. I have a regional event in a couple weeks that I will need to have that for though. It was done by a guy in our club, and it was CHEAP. $40 CDN (about $27 US) for both sides.
Silly question:
I am going to be calling GRM for my stickers and wondered. Should I take the stickers to a sign shop so they can cut the magnetic backing to fit or just use some extra magnetic business card sheets I have had for a bunch of years?

I recently purchased mine from Brett at SoloRacer.com. I highly recommend him -- great product, great price, great service. I'm very pleased.
I bought a large roll of magnetic sheeting, 20 square feet for 30 bucks of high quality stuff from Beacon Graphics and have made all my stuff with it. I got the black sheeting, and you just put stickers/decals on it and cut to shape for most things...for my numbers, i printed out large outlines for the numbers, traced onto the sheeting with pencil, cut, and then used plasti-kote upholstry spray from Pep Boys. . The stuff bonds to vinyl, so it doesn't crack or run or anything, it seems to change the color of the vinyl on a molecular level. Here's the link for the sheeting: http://www.beacongraphics.com/promag.html
and a pic of my stuff when i'm energetic enough to put it all on.

I don't see the point in ordering magnet material over the net. ANY sign shop sells it cheap. You can get a 12"x24"-36" piece for about $20! I had my numbers made and mounted on mag sheets for $50 at a local sign shop. The GRM number panel is only 14"x14" add on 6 - 8" for about $2 each and you shouldn't have to spend more then $35 for the material and numbers mounted on the sheets.

Look in the yellow pages for Sign Shops and ones that make vinyl custom signs and go there. Hell you can have it done in a day in most cases.

that's awesome guys.... thanks! yeah, i got some great ideas now.
I like the ones that have the border and the class in them. Though I better make that part interchangable since I might be leaving STX...
thanks guys!!
to all of you!

You want it, they've got it. Good service and a great selection. Afraid I don't have a picture of my car with everything stuck on.
