Default Any DOHC's from this era???

Is the only way to get a DOHC engine, besides a swap, to get a newer civic other than the Eg/Ek??? Because i havent noticed any DOHC's in the D series, so i assume i have to go B series or even K series right?

Stateside, B, H and K-series are your DOHC possibilities. In Japan and the Euro markets, there's an F20 that's DOHC and a non-VTEC DOHC ZC motor as well, but if you're looking to purchase a car that comes with two cams stock, you'll need either an EM1 "EK" Si or something newer.

uggh, si's are hard to find, is there any other options?? I have 2 years to get my car so the newest it could be would probably be 05' but how much Hp could i get out of a SOHC ? If i used a Y7 with a Y8 head and maybe turbo'd it?

as archidictus said, em1's are the only DOHC civic stateside. preludes come with the H22, and are easy to find. if you do find an SI chances are you will be paying for them. the best bet would be to get an EX or something compairable, and do a swap. and turbo D's can put down some numbers. just be sure to upgrade the bottom end if you want to lay some high numbers.

really you have to ask yourself, what do you want to do with the car, and what are your goals

You know you can just buy a motor right?

http://www.hmotorsonline.com is probably your best bet. Either that or if you dont have the car yet, buy a Honda that already has a swap just be sure to check over everything to make sure its ok.

Nevermind I see that you posted without a swap. Your going to have to get an integra or something if you want a dual cam or an si.

the DEL SOL VTEC and the 02+ CIVIC SI all came with DOHC VTEC/iVTEC ENGINES. also, the 1st gen integra comes with a DOHC D 16. just get a regular (sohc) civic and get a B swap or turbo the stock D. either way you'll have a fun car.

I think you feel too low of the D series.

I wouldn't go with a Y series to boost b/c quite simply they suck, IMO. I especially wouldn't go for a hybrid engine setup.

Use a full Y8 or depending on emissions a Z6 (which will hold it better) should be all you need. If you need more power you can build them up to 450hp for less than a K swap (which isn't saying much, but it's not expensive to basic build a D so it can hold more power w/o a higher redline).

Not very much... at all. Maybe 90 hp to the wheels stock. And at that point you gotta ask yourself: is the money you spend to upgrade that motor worth it? Just start higher to begin with.

with full bolt ons you might see like 95 to the wheels, plus whatever shot of nitrous you use.

single cams don't react well to bolt ons. almost useless.

Just do a swap. Whats wrong with swaps? B series + EK = win.

$$ cost of bolt-ons > $$ cost of swap
performance of D with bolt-ons << performance of B* stock

*I gotta say B18C actually. B16A/B18B/B20Z is so-so stock.
