SH or the Base? Nitrous and bolt ons... Confused now plz help
In the next week I plan to buy a 97-01 prelude. I have about 4 picked out around the stlouis area to go look at and drive and I believe 2 are SH and 2 are bases.
I plan on doing a few bolt ons, lightweight wheels, and anything I have to do to run a small nitrous shot. I wanted the SH model but Im reading all the ATTS **** on here and now I dont know. Has anyone had experience with mods not working cuz of the ATTS or does anyone have nitrous experience with it? I plan on drag racing accasionally, but mostly just having a fun car to drive that doesnt eat gas like my old RX8 did. Sorry to be such a noob about Hondas but any help anyone can give me would really help.. Thanks.

if you're going n/a with a stock block and running a DD nitrous setup, i think the SH will be better because you won't be putting out enough torque to cause the ATTS to cut out.. The SH IMO is the best for bolt-on DD cars. however if you do plan on building it big later on, you might wanna get a base just for convenience sake
i hear alot of people don't care much for the SH. it has it pros and cons just like anything else though. one thing to keep in mind, if you plan on any future changes other than juice, you could screw yourself. base is always cool since your building it up in the first place and your not as limited.
Several drawbacks to building an SH:
-Limited to roughly 250WHP
-At this time can only use Emanage Ultimate for tuning
-More things to go wrong and maintain
-Scarcity of parts (whole exhaust is different from base as well as suspension)
That being said, I am a proud owner of an SH and love it. SH's and Base's are for two different kinds of people: if you enjoy spirited driving, love handling, are up for a challenge, like ingenuity, go for the SH; if you like the tried-and-true, going for a big turbo/drag build, want an easy build, buy a base. There's a reason the SH was declared by C&D as the best handling car under $30,000 when it came out and for several years following. However, I would caution that you buy something '99 or newer if possible (there were a couple small things in the early years that got changed later, so save yourself the hassle [trust me, I own a '97]). Also, I would suggest doing some more research on running NOS with the SH before you buy to make sure everything will run fine.

I plan on it being a DD. Hovering somewhere around 200whp with a small shot of nitrous. Just something reliable and fun. Thanks for all the info so far guys, everyone is much more helpful here than over at rx8club.com Thanks alot, keep it coming..

Does anyone know the specifics of why the 97 and 98 models have problems? It seems like I can buy one of those for around 5k but when you go up to a 99 they jump up to around 8k.. Is that because of the problems?
Also, If anyone has experience with nitrous on a SH could you plz let me know of what all you had to do to make it work right? I dont want to get myself into something by buying an SH thanks again.
