Default Help me decide good mods please.

Hey everyone.. I'm going to be modding my s2k in the near future, and would like to know what quality parts I should be saving up for. I would like to know the sites which you guys shop on.. that has the best prices, and best consumer love..

I decided I'm going to be getting the HKS- Hi power dual exhaust..

http://www.performancecenter.c.../2.2L

This is a good sound... I want something with quality but save me some change to complete my small mod list, which consists of.. Wheels, Intake and maybe lowering it a bit.

Do you all like the K&N Intake?

http://www.performancecenter.c.../2.2L

You all know more than I do about this subject, I would like to know which you have had the best experiences with, I would love to go with t1r and mugen, but I don't have that kind of money and I would like to step away from stock.

If there are some exhausts, intakes, and lowering kits/springs that are legible for my 2006 s2000, then hit me up with them please.

And some wheels would be sick, like a brand thats most popular, and i'll give a check on the website... this means alot.. thanks alot.

i have both those intake and exhaust mods you speak up and highly reccomend both of them. I would also suggest coilovers and 4.56/4.77 gears. Also a front lip if you don't have one.

For which part?
I would probably go with the exhaust and the intake first off.
Id like to spend below $850 for both of those.

Dude that exhaust will net you no hp gains.

Basicly this is how it goes for exhausts
Single > Dual
70mm non resonated > 70mm resonated >63mm
Titanium > Stainless
Spring connected > Flanges

The K&N I would recomend I got one.

Go with the term function over form. Whats the point of paying 800$ for an aftermarket exhaust if you wont make power with it. Unless your only buying for the looks and sound then for you.

conected does not = connected
the hks is only good for the sound. it has no drone. but you will lose 2 few ponies.
if you are looking for intake hp gains, buy an aem v2 or injen cai for 300
if you want consumer love spend 1000 and get a j/s racing cf intake
or spend half of that and buy a spoon snorkel

Tom,

A couple of questions for you which might make it easier for people to help you out:

1) How much money are you looking to spend on each of the parts:

- You have already mentioned $850 on exhaust and intake, but what about the wheels and lowering the car?

2) What do you plan on doing to the car in the future?

- This is a very important Q now as you do not want to be putting things on the car that you are going to have to take off to replace with a different part because e.g. they are no good for FI

- Do you plan on going turbo / supercharged?
- Anything else you would do to the car if you had the money now to do it.

And in answer to your questions:

I read you would like to go with the t1r and the mugen. Personally I would recommend adding parts to the car that actually improve the car as a whole, both performance wise and aesthetically. For this reason I wouldn't recommend going with the HKS exhaust, as many people have actually noted a reduction in power with this exhaust. Berk have just come out with a new dual ti exhaust, with dual 57mm piping (I believe) that has shown to produce good power gains on stock (have actually seen the dyno graph) and I think sounds pretty good. Its over your budget at $1200, but as many will tell you this is an amazing price for a ti exhaust, which is shown to produce power gains and reduces the weight of the stock exhaust.

In terms of the intake the mugen IMO is a waste of money, as you can put that money to much better use somewhere else. If you are looking for an intake with good gains check out the aem v2, already recommended. Also consider the rain issues with this intake and the possibility of fabricating a 'shield' (umbrella ) to protect it.

If you are going to modify the car, spend the money correctly 1st time round, rather than buying something now for less, not being happy with it and in the long run spending more $$. I know people who have gone through 4/5 exhausts, intakes etc. Its just a complete waste. If you don't have the money now save for a couple of months and I'm sure you could come up with the little bit extra to get good numbers out of your stock s.

Hope this helps, once you answer my q's i'll try point you in the right direction for your other q's.

p.s. Don't jsut take my opinion on the matter as this is solely my opinion. Do research as it is worth it in the long run

this is so true
if you just got the car, don't get mod happy.
this reminds me of my friend who went mod happy with his 350z, cause of his car club. he bought rims with the wrong offset (because he was getting a good deal) when i told him not to. now he complains and there is no spacers available to fix his bad judgement.

Basskika,

So far I have read to go with the better of the exhausts from you and others. I will do this, get a t1r or the ones you mentioned and this will just slow my progress down for the wheels. If I s/c or t/c , it will not be anytime soon. So that's out of the question for now.. But if I would do that, it would be years. I wish though, I truley do. But I will have to search for the exhaust and the intake that you have mentioned.

Thanks for everyone else too! More information is much appreciated. I'm liking the stuff you guys are telling me!

The exhaust I could run about... 800-1000$ if this is the case, because I want it to be a good exhaust and I don't want to replace it. You all say single is better than dual exhaust, but this means I would need to get a new bumper because I've seen single exhausts on the stock S2000 bumper which is fitted for the dual exhaust and it just looks weird IMO.

But i'll see about dual / single.

Would going to a exhaust car shop and asking them to make me a custom exhaust be better? Price wise, and will it be it as good? The place looks legit and looks like they have done a lot of gigs.

If you can get the correct size exhaust pipes and a skilled welder then you can make a nice exhaust.. I made mine. But unless you do it yourself or a friend, any exhaust shop IS going to hack the job.

I agree with what you say about looking weird with a single and hence would personally go with a dual as I have, as I believe the car looks better with a dual. If you look around you will also find some very good dual exhausts that flow almost as well as a single exhaust and give good power gains. If u thinking going FI in the future, however distant, I would recommend spending a little extra now and not having to replace it again later.

Hope my info helps and good luck with your car

Yeah thats what I did and it turned out really nice. Just make sure you tell them how you want it! I think I paid around 500-550 for mine. It looks and sounds nice. 70MM single from header back with an HKS ti. That was the only problem the clamp they give you to hold the muffler isnt the best to weld on

Spoon intake duct. Fake ones work just as well, for about $100 on eBay, but you have to donate one of your ********* back to the male community.

With the money you saved on the intake duct, you can spend a bit more on the exhaust. Go with a single if you want any kind of gains. For your price range, look for a used exhaust by the names of T1R, J's, Spoon.

Sell your remaining ******** if you want to step up to Amuse or ASM.

go with ebay snorkle for 100, k&n drop in filter for 50, then search s2ki for a used single exhaust. that should put you around 850. i would say forget lowering springs and wheels and do 4.44 gearset. that will net you the most performance for the least amount of money.

i'd pass on the 4.44's and go 4.57

I'm gonna have to vote against. OEM shim combinations for the 4.57 gearset puts the backlash at either end of the tolerance range. On an AP2, they also take a little bit more from the top end than I like. I say 4.3 on long courses, and 4.44 for shorter courses.

that just depends. 4.44 are better for 1/4 mile cause you dont shift into 5th gear.

You'd have to shift into 5th anyways. Even stock, 4th tops out at 96mph on an AP2. Just because you drive weak *** AP1 doesn't mean everyone else does.
