Default bad piston rings???how can tell??

my car is burning oil i know it could be valve steam seals or pistong rings
but whats the best way to tell that the rings are bad????
1._leak down test ,
2._compression test ,
3._can't tell untill you re-build the block
thanks

compression test
write down numbers

add a few drops of oil to each cyl
redo compression test
if they numbers go up ALOT

id say your rings are going bad.

cylinder leakage test is good way to figure that out, if u dont really feel air coming out but it shows high leakage, feel around the crankcase, if u feel some air then, prolly bad rings

i did that and it was fine just 3psi lost

HERE IS WHAT I FOUND TODAY!1!
I TURN ON THE CAR POP UP THE HOOD AND PULL THE TROTLE CABLE
REVING THE ENGINE AROUND 4500 RPM-7000 RPM AND SAW A LOT OF SMOKE COMING OUT FROM THE BACK OF THE ENGINE ON THE ALTERNATOR AREA UNDER THE MANIFOLD I COULDN'T FIND EXACTLY WHERE BUT ILL KEEP AND EYE ON IT. NOW I CAN UNDERSTAND HOW THE SMOKE IS GETTING INSIDE . I'M SURE IS NOT AIR LEAK FROM THE EXHAUST.
WHAT IT COULD BE???

if its not coming out the exhaust it could be cam seals leaking into timing belt cover, look for oil leaks where oil might be burning off the block from leak

as usual the guides are overlooked even though they are often a major cause of oil burning.
