The mountains got snowed on pretty hard a couple weeks back, and I just couldn't resist a drive up. Of course, my Nikon D80 had to come along too. Here's some shots I picked out from the batch. Hope you all enjoy! I've got higher res. shots of all of these... Of course, commentaries for all the shots underneath
Catalina Mountains/Mt. Lemmon, AZ
Best shot in the set, IMO.
The R looked like a toy car from where I took this.
This look-out spot is usually packed with cars. Lucky me!

I need a bigger zoom lens to get that background a bit blurrier...
I'm hoping to get some $ into her soon. Hell, right now she's without audio and with some of the roughest (though superior) suspension I've ever driven.
Anyways, let me know what you all think.

This shot is my favorite. All the others ones, there is something blocking the subject.

You say you need a bigger zoom lens...I would suggest going with a Prime lens, like a 50mm or an 85mm. A prime would 'Bokeh' the hell out of the background

I have a slightly used Alpine 9857 with the Ipod fire wire cable that I'm selling. Make me a reasonable offer and it's yours.

That's what my 986 looked like last month in Buffalo, but I neglected to snap any photos. Lots of fun though.

Is that an HDR?
It's rare that you see a digital image come out with that sort of range naturally.
Looks great though, glad you took pictures before the salt got to her

Yes it's still on the Toda suspension. Handles like a monster

I shot at the lowest f/stop for almost all of these shots. It was a sunny day, and that + snow= short exposure times on even the lowest ASA (100). No matter how I cut it, unless I get a darker filter, there is only so much I can do with so much brightness.

No, that's exactly the image that came out of the camera. I was so surprised to see it come out so perfectly. No tweaking required!
As for the salt, I was only up in the snow for a bit. Drove up the mountain, parked for about 30 mins and took some shots, and then stopped on the way down and grabbed a few more shots.
THe funniest part was when I tried backing out of the snowier spot- I was in what was basically a few fractions of an inch of snow and my tires were spinning away. Had me laughing my *** off (I guess that's what happens when Arizona people meet the snow).
Lastly, yes, I do need to adjust the front ride height. I adjusted it when I brought her home from California and I just haven't gotten around to bringing it back down.

Excellent, if you would of been working with any other foreground besides snow then you would have had a different outcome, but definitely a great way to make it work for you.
