News on the Type R?
Alright I already know all about this car and all the bull crap... i dont need links and i dont need 'search' because I've read and posted in probably all the type r threads in this place... just to clear that up.
I'm just wondering if anyone knows a way to find a real answer on whether or not Honda is considering bringing its FD2 (Japan Type R) to the states. I am only asking this because I have been considering getting a TW FA5 and converting, but I'd really rather just wait, save, and get the type R later down the road if its coming. So far there is only the 'rumor' of the press conference that honda held and mentioned something about it.
I personally have not been able to find any info regarding it, maybe someone else has and hasn't mentioned it or maybe I missed it. Either way, this is a serious post and I'm only asking so I can make an informed decision on a future purchase. Thanks to anyone who has any info.

And why would it be until after 2010?
Then it would be a new model civic chassis, and they would have to wait a couple more years into the model run before Honda finished the next gen type r.

Just get the TW FA5 right now, it's worth it!
If a Type R variant DOES come here, it's going to be so inflated in price anyways. Not only that, but the chances of it coming here are slim. I'd say just get the FA5 now, it's a sweet car, especially in TW

While yes the price would be inflated... I would assume to $30k or so just for BASE type R.... but the resale value along with unmodded performance are worth it. If I got a type R it would be garaged, only brought out on occasional weekends and to goto a road track. The RSX is now considered my DD beater... probably never to be modded hah.
Back in my homeland (Malaysia/Singapore) there are quite a few people who own the FD2R but sadly, they all reckon that unless it's your 2nd car (i.e. track only) then it's definitely not worth investing in. Bear in mind that the price point is higher than a new Evo IX (Evo X still isn't available).

Why would you buy a street R as a track only vehicle when Honda offers OMR program. Below is a thread I created about it.

When I said 'track only', I should've been clearer and said it's more suited if it'll predominantly be used on the track. I don't know much about the OMR that you refer to, but I did read the source article you linked to and whilst it sounds great, it reminds me of what Subaru does in Australia with the PWRC track/circuit only cars which can't be registered on the road. These cars are for the really serious (and wealthy) enthusiast who either has a place at the track to park the car, or their own way of transporting vehicles. I'm not sure about the other people on this forum, but that is just way above my status level lol... for me, if a car is good on the track, that's great, but I still need to be able to (at least) drive it to the track.

Honda is never going to bring another Type-R to the US. The Honda that brought the DC2 Type-R to the US is dead. We're living with the Honda that neutered the EP3. </TD></TR></TABLE>
They had to. The car was made in England, not very cost effective. They didn't think people would pony up for a 25k Civic then. As far as the ITR I have read several articles that Honda didn't make much if anything on that car with all the hand assembly.
It was hard to believe when Honda put the engine that started it all in the EM1.

I know they had to. I'm just saying they didn't. And the RSX-S was a huge factor in not bringing the EP3 CTR stateside. It would have killed that car. And it probably wouldn't have been 25K since it wasn't hand built.
Yes, the ITR was indeed a loss for Honda.

Why the hell would they take the LSD out of the OMR car? thats retarded....
I wouldn't want one for track use only, I'd still want to take her out for a spin now and then. But I wouldn't want to put more than 3,000 miles on her in a year.

Why don't you come here in canada and buy the Acura CSX, then you'd have the ability to get every single part from the FD2R.. and still retain the warranty..

And even then, it should have had a B18C5 instead maybe skimped on the port & polish and what not. Honda actually did a pretty good job addressing the shortcomings on the EM1. They just forgot what they did right. Everyone complained about the seats and steering wheel... They sure as hell fixed those in the EP3. Their problem was that they thought the motor was great when it was just barely good enough for the EM1.
If anything Honda looks like they've learned from their mistakes... The new Si answers any complaints one could have about the EM1 and EP3. Doesn't hurt that the RSX/Integra is gone. Now just get on it and do the Type-R.

Emissions can be dealt with. The car can be detuned, given really conservative maps, etc. The only thing that can make the FD2 not come is Honda of America not wanting to bring it and/or messing up their "green" image.

Being detuned will be like an FA5 but with better suspension, aero appeal, and interior. It will be like a Mugen Si IMO.
