I was a good samaritan today for a stranded DA owner.
Hey guys, I know I likely don't jump out as very familliar around these parts of the board, but I come to you, with still-greasy hands, to tell you this story in the hopes it may help someone in the future, its a lil long winded but blame the lack of a kills section for that, i havn't told a good story on h-t in a WHILE.
I was driving home from work today in my daily driver 91 civic hatch (see sig,) when upon turning onto my street low-and-behold i see an integra sitting, hood up a couple houses down from mine, and judging by the half pulled in park job i assume he stalled out and rolled her there. Well, I park my car at my house to let the wife go inside, and i march down to see whats up. (As an 88-91 civic enthusiast I feel some sort of bond to the DA guys, being my obd0 brethren)
Upon arriving on-scene i casually introduce myself and ask what she is/isn't doing. One guy is in the car and turns her over for me to hear. Cranks great, real healthy... start to wonder, spark or fule.... hrmmm. Guy cranks it over for a bit and to no avail. well, i ask if he minds if i have a look around, and he says go ahead, so i poke and peer around under the hood, generally just making sure important things are snug and checked. guy cranks it over again, and i dont smell gas. well i start to think its for sure a fuel problem, but then he tells me that it shuts off when it gets hot. so i lean in the car to listen for the fuel pump and for relays to click and stuff. well, it REEKS of gas near the firewall, so i assume the fuel is getting there and that it may well be a spark issue. I tell him to sit tight and I run inside my house for tools and a quick check on H-T (you rule H-T.) Coming out again i bring a full backpack brimming with all the tool needed to remove the cap and if need be the entire dizzy. Bringing outside with me my distributer king obd0 vtec dizzy to test in his car
well, to sum it up, i fired the old dist off, and a new one on, hooked the plug wires back up and told the guy to try it. she cranks and cranks but just doesnt start, i tell him to give give it a sec, then try it again (if it WAS a spark issue its likely pretty flooded by now.) Well, he turns the key and after 3 or 4 cranks it fires, and the guys face just lights up. I tell him he needs an ignitor or a coil, or both and i remove my dizzy, replace his, and after having such time to cool, his old dist starts the car again to make it the rest of the way home before it gets hot enough to die again.

an original slueth... first thing i noticed was that you referenced the person under the hood was a 'she.' anyways, i would of pulled over too if there was a stranded DA near my house. good work.
lol i wish the dizzy was a spare...
its actually the one that powers the spark in the 89 si when its alive during the summer months. last year an sir2 b16a this year an ls/vtec.
and to be honest i didnt even need to pull over to help, he was 50 steps from my front yard, its really the only reason i could be so helpful, cuz i could just run inside and grab whatever tools/parts i needed
