Default Rain+CAI = Problems Engaging VTEC

Had some Rainy weather, and was driving in the Highway Noticed my airfilter wasnt getting proper suction- so i pulled over- [keep in mind i have a injen water-repellant pre-filter]

at the next light i feel shaking in my shifter and a squeeling noise coming from engine along with tons of white smoke out my tail-pipe.

light turned green and idling didnt seem like the thing to do.. so i accellerate and clears the problem right up.. car ran fine and i relaxed.

the next day i am on the highway and a speedy driver comes along.. i try to engage vtec and no luck.. i get all motor power w.o vtec..

any ideas on how this is going to hurt my wallet to fix.

i have a 94 gs-r i/h/e

thanks for any help.

Hows your oil? Do you have a CEL?

How do you drive and notice an air filter not getting proper suction? I'm confused with that.
Got no hood?

Search all the threads that talk about no vtec engagement. Do all the checks that have been written time and time again from people such as yourself who don't search and just post up new threads. Once you have exhausted that and it STILL doesn't work then come back here.

check your oil. and on your temperture gauge where is it at? vtec will only engage under certain tempertures.

thanks for the posts guys..

yea i definatly could feel restraingth in my throttle from the air intake being soaked thus not letting the air flow properly.. smart guy> thanks for the reply tho.

i checked the oil.. noticed alot of air bubbles the dipstick. called my mechanic.. told him the deal... he said change the oil and hopefully thatll fix ur vtec prob.. [keep in mind the car runs / idles very smoothly, just no vtec..]

and i just changed the oil/filter and it feels alot better.. im about to go for a drive, and hopefully later tonight my vtec will kick in.. well thanks for the help fellaz.. hopefully i didnt blow a head gasket..

ps. i did run the car at about 5k-rpm in the rain.. and i thnk that was the point of impact.

temp is fine aswell.

i have'nt ever check a cel so iono.

hey flamer.. this is a site where we all gather and share insite and knowledge.. not setup to worry about how much bandwidth a tiny thread is using up.

go to importtuner to be a girl.

Hm..

How bad was the rain?? Large puddles??

Just cause your air filter is water proof doesn't mean it can't be submerged in water..

Which is this is the case you sucked in some water.. You can bend rods, etc..

IMHO, cold air intakes are bad news.. I'd cut it in half to ensure you don't hydrolock your engine in bad weather..

You've already changed the oil/filter.. So now i'd pull ecu fuse, pull all the plugs out and crank the engine over for a little while... don't be surprised if you get water shooting out..

And if you do have CEL.. In the passenger side kick panel there is a blue connector with two holes... Jump the connector off by sticking a paper clip in both holes and read the CEL.
