right
so i swapped the gauge cluster in my 89 civic dx to a 89 crx and everything generally works fine. the one problem i found is that as i floor it, the tach tends to freak out and jump back and fourth. normal city driving has no problem, just when acceleration fast.
wtf is goin on. it seems like the signal it is getting is being "broken".
i ran out of ideas of my own

check the screws on the back of the cluster, make sure they are snug. they are what connects the gauges to the wiring.
alternately the cluster might be going bad.
If you didnt just swap the cluster in I would have mentioned the igniter/ICM, mine went bad and it caused the tach to jump/bounce around.
also If you have the same cluster (your old one) you can remove the Tach portion of the cluster and swap it into the new one, just take the clear cover off then remove the 3 screw from the back, and instalation is the reverse.

like a 60 dollar part
easy fix
get someone to check it for you</TD></TR></TABLE>
Look at the bottom of your distributor case. you should see two small screws that goes into the metal casing. They hold the igniter inside the distributor. It has 4 or 5 wires going to it inside.

yeah like crxb16 said check your dizzy...
check the wires inside the dizzy and see if they are loose.
if so just pench them a lil and push them back on...
and make shure that your dizzy is not loose and check the dizzy wires..
good luck.
