Default Summit Point Hyperfest Vids (In car of me, nothing cool like ECHC)

Just encoded a few vids of my HYPER-drives at Summit....hyper-enjoy them. They'll be up on S&M soon, just wanted to get them out there.

BIG vid of me on track behind that drifto altezza wagon...around 35 megs, be warned. He does some interesting stuff around turn 8 near the end of the vid...

one of my better unobstructed laps...not my fastest, but one of the smoothest. The instructor likes the R

following a subaru for a bit.

thanks

[edit] downloaded the divx codec and they're working now.

Nice vid. What was the circular object your cam was looking through? Too bad that IS was holding you up, it looked like your line was pretty good.

That's vignetting (i think that's the word) from the wide angle lens that Black R so graciously gave me. It's taped onto the camera, but it really makes in-car useful, since i can see from pillar to pillar, and my wheel as well. It's less noticable when you watch the video on a TV, the computer has a slightly wider field of vision for some reason.

Those vids are great. Is that a part of the HDPE that NASA offers. I want to get into some road raincg, I just have to find another car that I could live with possibly destroying.

The instructor sounded like a pretty cool guy. Nice!

These videos were not from an "actual" HPDE. As part of the "hyperfest" weekend, it was possible for anyone who walked up to purchase on-track time (hyper-drives). It was conceived as a sort of HPDE advertising campaign, allowing people to experience what they were missing out on. I thought the idea was to keep things somewhat speed limited, but I'm not sure that was the case. I missed the festivities due to driving an HPDE on the track next-door.

I used to be in a similar situation. I wanted to start driving, but was worried about taking my brand new car to the track. I eventually sold it, and put together a track-only car. I've only driven two events, but I already feel like I missed out by not taking the other car out.

There are mishaps though... my first weekend an RX7 went into the wall, and a Supra did the same during one of these "hyper-drives". Being concious of the risks is good, but I feel like obsessing over it just leaves you in a bad place mentally.

I did 2 hyper-drives, 40 bucks a pop, the first one was maybe 25 minutes (supposed to be 20), the second day i got almost 50 minutes, which was awesome. The instructors were both fantastic, very supportive and informative. I think they were kinda happy to be in a car that was set up for track events, they enjoyed passing stuff, my first one was really keyed up about it. Unfortunately vid from the first day is mostly the back of the instructor's helmet, so i don't have much to show me chasing down that turbo maxima or whatever it was that was leaving me for dead in the straights, but braking about 3x too early and turning like a pig.

Excellent videos, Aleph. I was getting frustrated as hell just watching you behind that Lexus wagon as if I were in the driver's seat!

Very enjoyable stuff, and great instructor, too!

Watching all these in-car videos from ITRs has really got me thinking that I want to throw one of those motors in my Si. It really seems like that extra 400rpm and extra ooomph can come in handy on the track.

Mike-who'll be at the next Summit Point HPDE...ITR motor or not.
