Default 4.5" Downpipe/midpipe and 5.0" exhaust pics

Hey guys, I thought I'd share a recent exhaust project for my Supra during the winter months... Sorry, I wished I would have been able to make such DP and exhaust for my Integra

The system starts out 3.25" at the downpipe flange, expands to 4.5" OD immediately. The midpipe is 4.5" ID and all the way to the other slip/flex connection. From there it is 5" OD, and just before the muffler it becomes 5.0" ID with an Aeroturbine AT5050XL muffler. I have designed this exhaust to hug really tight and promote better ground clearance, and it came out pretty well

In order to snug the exhaust extremely tight without having it rubbing all over the place was to have an additional exhaust hangers made along with stiffer bushings. Two additional mounts for the DP/MP was also made which bolts onto the transmission (moves along with engine just like how the factory mounts were placed).

The Aeroturbine muffler is f*cking HUGE and I almost **** my pants when the box first arrived at my door. It measures a little over 30" in overall length, but surprisingly, it was lighter than my APEXi muffler...lol It is the resonated 5" model, and it sounds great. It's not loud at all, and in fact, quieter than a lot of the 4" straight through systems I have heard. I was glad I managed to cram that thing in there.

UPDATE: The exhaust sounds pretty smooth and quiet at idle and low revs, but damn this thing is insanely loud when the car revs out...lol Videos available tomorrow

Here are some pics (lots of pics)... Enjoy

It is listed in his signature at 601hp @18psi however that is probably not updated especially with the exhaust. Exhaust looks very nice, but welds are a little iffy. Is the mount in the 4th picture welded all the way through or did you only tack in on one side? I only ask because it appears to be broken if it is only tacked.

Those welds are just fine... Jesus, not everything has to be rainbow bright tiggged god ness...

5" overkill in my opinion (definately at 600-700), but whatever.

Yup yup, it's impossible to get stainless steel piping in those sizes up here in Canada without being as$ raped for shipping/inflated costs. Half the guys I deal with are in the US, and a huge bulk of massive pipes = ridiculous shipping costs (upwards of $250). If I use regular mild steel, that **** would rust back to earth in a year up here in Toronto, Canada even if it is a spring/summer/autumn driven car.

I used a 312 stainless rod to do all the welding... I know the appearance will not be perfect as using a mild steel rod. With SS welds, at least I know the welds won't rust as quickly, and the aluminized piping usually stay rust free for a long time if the welds don't rust first They are welded colder than usual because I wasn't planning on backpurging 5" pipes....ROFL I don't want anything to remotely burn through the pipe and hurting flow at the same time.

I will be sure to post some sound clips... It just snowed here recently and winter salts are all over the road. I'm going to wait until the road is cleared out before I take the beast for a rip

The hanger mount is mig welded, and then later smoothened out with a TIG torch.

From the big 4" exhaust test (aka Clash of the Titans) on the forums, there were noticeable power differences between various 4" systems. Best 4" exhaust vs poorest 4" exhaust had a power difference of 10 WHP and 11 ft-lbs with a mid 600 WHP power level car. Since there are gains assosciated with just flow differences even at 4" sizes, my plan for 750-800 WHP will definitely make use for a 4.5" DP/MP and 5" exhaust I will be putting the car back on the dyno very soon, and I have lots of data to share as well. I have 16psi baseline figures for a 3.25" DP/MP and 3.75 exhaust, versus a 3.25" straight dump, and I will overlay the numbers for the 4.5"/5.0" system

I didn't weight them actually... It wasn't heavy or light, but it felt like most SS exhausts I have dealt with; getting the weight numbers didn't even ring a bell when I was working on the exhaust... If it was real heavy, I would for sure put it on a scale that is just sitting in the corner of my shop.

5" stainless can be found. Just have to look at supply houses for 18 wheelers and other big rigs. I found a 409 5" 90* bend for $105 USD. (Looked into building a full 5" stainless system for my bro's Dodge Cummin's)

Yes it does but its so slight. My brother opted to just buy a prefabbed exhaust for his truck since fabricating one wasnt saving any money. Its built from 409 and has a slight surface rust that cleans up with a scuff pad and some WD40. Thats also with 80k miles and 2 New England winters so far.

I uploaded the video onto youtube, but the quality doesn't do the exhaust justice... If anyone here can host up a 21MB video for a few days, then some of the guys can download a higher quality version
