1997 Prelude

Car was being driven on the fwy and suddenly the rpms drop and stalls. Pulled over the side of the fwy and the car wont turn / crank over. There is still power in the vehicle, the battery is good, the car has a full tank of gas. what could be wrong?

I'm a newbie, but I would say your timing belt snapped.

i think is something to do with your distributor. (cap,rotor,distributor)

 

as far as i can tell you it could be anything but i dont want to sound like a a-hole but if you wanna get some answers you'll need to be more specific about your car on whats really happening under the hood.. how many miles does it have?

This possibly could be your problem...I would check to see if any of these are bad. From personal experience this has happened to me, although I was able to get the car back running...just needed a minute to get enough juice.

 

I would put my money on the timing belt. How many miles are on the car? Auto tensioners go bad in the H22s.

maybe ignition coil. when mine went out, my car had stalled a couple of times over the span of a couple months, while it was running i could see the dash lights dim a bit and then it died.

then one day i was driving onto the freeway and it died and couldnt start it back up. got the ignition coil replaced and its all better.

 

Ding ding ding! yes so far the mechanic i brought the car to said it was the distributor, lets hope its just that, if all else then its the coil thats next.

Got the car back today, they replaced the distributor, now there is a new issue. While in 3rd gear driving, the rpms at 4k jumps to 5k then starts to bog down. is this normal?

 

I thought mine broke and it was the motor But when I thought it was the timing belt broke everyone was telling me more serious things could've happened i.e. the timing belt broke and the valves tore a hole in the piston, the piston bent some valves, or when the belt broke the oil pump stopped pumping and destroyed the motor. But you didn't hear a bang did you? will the starter even turn?

 

im having the same prob. with my 92 lude it got a h22 swap in it.i change the plugs ,wires,got a msd ignition but still bogs down then stalls an now it wont even starts an im geting fuel an spark.
