Hey, new guy here...got a 98 Civic w/ d16y8 and vtec not kicking in. Car drives fine otherwise, no CELs, oil level fine. How can I check the solenoid, etc. to see if its working right? Any info would be appreciated...thanks.

 

what ecu are you running?

 

hot wire vtec solenoid by running a wire from positive terminal and slighly tap on the selonoid housing and if u can hear a soft click/pop. then it is good.

 

try swapping out the ECU... start there first... that problem happens alot ECU's are gay

x2 - very quick and easy way to test if the solenoid is good or bad.

 

It's the stock ECU... I'll try your sugg of running the wire...thanks for your help!
