What's up guys?

I have a decision to make and need your help. Should I continue to build my d16y7 in my 99 dx hatch or turbo or super?

build my d16y7: i already have headers, full 2.5" straight piped exhaust, cold air intake, and msd ignition (plugs, wires, dizzy & SCI ignition controller.) my plans if i continue to build would be y8 head swap with skunk2 intake manifold and stage 2 cam. with that i would hope to hit about 150whp.

turbo: i would probably buy the greddy kit and hope to hit 200whp.

super: buy the jackson racing and hope to hit about 180-190 with a smaller pulley

what do you guys think? i kinda wana build my d16y7 cause ive already out money into it and its pretty quick. (only gets beats by my buddies cobalt ss/sc by about 3-4 cars)

 

Build your own turbo kit.

 

go all motor, then buy a turbo... then you will have something to show off.

 

what are your goals with the motor? and what do you want it to do for you? with a D series your not going to get very much out of it na. turbo will be the more perfered setup.

 

If you want to hit 180whp, the most cost effective method is turbocharging.

 

Any way you plan on going you should seriously look into upgrading your internals. The single cam motors have a real problem with throwing bearings, and once you throw one, good luck finding a crank worth a damn... I learned the hard way and had to have a crank custom cut. After rebuilding my block, I dropped three times as much as if I would have just done the internals the first time.

Anyway, if you plan on keeping your D, boost is probably better. Going NA, you probably won't gain as much.

 

ok 150whp is very possible especially if u use a higher octane gas(thats what i do) but see theirs this line which u have to pass its like the line that all 4cylinder all motor cars have
its between 120hp-170hp, these cars are often built with bolt on parts but they are common, so once you pass them say if u push 180hp then ud be faster than the majority of 4 cylinder cars out their, well thats it and fi will get u their with no problem on ur y7 infact u can even go 200+hp safly with a good tune, but fi is gonna cost 1000 and up for a good kit and then u must tune it 200+$ so it gets expensive but it will always be cheaper and faster than u building that y7 with boltons, ull be spending alot of $ going into the 170hp range. If u build ur own kit u can get it done 1500$ or less my uncle built a custom turbo setup for less than 1000$ but he selftuned it

 

Even 150whp N/A from a y7 is not an easy task.

 

remember d16y8,y7 are known to throw bearings so i would upgrade my oil pump or something before going all out 200hp

 

Well, first of all we need to know what are the goals for you car. Are you just looking for a few more horsepower or enough to so the car is actually entertaining to drive. Either way, if you are actually looking for more than 10hp power, stop throwing money at your engine for all these NA parts. Also, you'll be lucky to see 150WHP with your setup. The most cost effective method to get power from your motor would be to turbo. You'll be getting alot more power for the money. There are alot of good kits out there which reduce the hassle, but you can also piece your own which would be cheaper and you can decide on your set up and what parts you want. My opinion is go ahead and turbo your motor and shoot for 180WHP with a good tune. Also go ahead and do the Y8 head even if you do decide to turbo your motor, that alone will also give you some gains. And who doesn't want VTAK?

Wow retard! why would he spend the money to go all motor and then buy more **** to go turbo? You will hands down get the best power out of turbo. Unless you build all motor with spray, but I still think you would get more power with boost... Build it right the first time go boost!

 

yeah mine threw 3... two rod and one main... afterwards my crank was worthless... took forever trying to get a new one.

You mean "spun 3"? You spin bearings and throw rods.
